Due to a loophole in the state's constitutional amendment against gerrymandering, Ohio Republicans see an opportunity to pick up more seats for 2026, and they look ready to use it. For @NOTUSreports

“They're coming back to say, ‘We didn't get enough,’” said a Democrat who represents one of the districts Republicans are targeting.

House Appropriations Chair Tom Cole told me there “clearly” needs to be another continuing resolution as the shutdown drags into its fourth week. He'd like it to extend into mid-January, he explained as he lit a cigar. Several other Republicans agree: https://t.co/mmPccjuKOG

BREAKING: Arizona has officially sued the House of Representatives over Mike Johnson's decision to not swear in Adelita Grijalva, who was elected in a special election one month ago https://t.co/MWjXaesrkE

The state’s attorney general, Kris Mayes, argued that Johnson is breaking the precedent he set in April when he swore in two Republican congressmen during a pro forma session.

The Indiana Daily Student has over $400K to spend, but the former adviser said administrators hamstrung his ability to use those funds, worsening the newspaper's deficit spending. Of note: Mark Cuban's recent $250K donation nearly matches the deficit https://t.co/XPB3QcOmCw

The financially strapped IDS has over $400,000 sitting in a fund, including $250,000 from Indiana University alum Mark Cuban.

NEW: Federal courts are flooded with lawsuits against Trump — a result of legal groups’ months-long, and in some cases years-long, preparation for Trump 2.0 One lawyer said Trump’s 1st term was “dress rehearsal,” and now they know what they’re up against https://t.co/T1rFKiVmVn

The avalanche of litigation against the Trump administration is a result of months-long, and in some cases years-long, planning from different groups who worked in tandem to meet the moment.

Shuttering the print edition also forces the IDS to lose already sold advertising, instead of letting it run through the end of the semester at minimum, another stupid “business decision.” IU’s argument that these are business decisions just does not hold weight.

The reporting from the Star makes this clear. Administration recommend printing two versions of the paper, one without any news for campus, which is clearly a dumb business decision and adds significant cost.

I think the timing here is really important to take note of. This weekend will likely be the biggest IU homecoming in years with recent football success. IU simply doesn’t want newspapers critical of the university to be picked up by alumni and fans. 🧵

A shutdown angle you may not have seen yet: Lawmakers are concerned Russ Vought might cut tribal programs during the shutdown. “I worry about loss of staff,” Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski, chair of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee, told me. https://t.co/WG3kEC3QFr

I hope to see @SPLC and the IDS file a lawsuit against IU. Media law concerning student journalism is complex but this is blatant censorship. Really shameful decisions regarding student journalism at both @IUBloomington and @LifeAtPurdue this year.
IU previously directed the Indiana Daily Student to stop printing news coverage in our paper. Upon pushback, IU fully cut print, including our special editions. The IDS was not involved in the decision. Letter from the editors to come.
