NH state rep from Hillsborough 28 A+ rating from @nhliberty I came here to chew bubble gum and fight for a free New Hampshire...and I'm all out of bubble gum.

Zoning sucks, but it's an attempt to deal with some actual thorny issues. A long-form 3-part essay on externalities, zoning, libertarianism, and a new technology: tradeable development easements.

"Americans are just less skilled . which is why H1-B recruiters hide the job listings in print newspapers in obscure markets where no American will see them, and explain 'we don't want applications, we just want regulatory compliance' ". ok sure.
Call this what it is: entitlement. Some conservatives don't want competition from hardworking immigrants who outwork & outperform them. And here I'd been told progressives are the ones against merit.

government is bad, mostly, but NH's small scale, high human capital, and low funding for government (which means it's not stuffed with People of Patronage lodged in sinecures to buy Dem votes) means that it functions surprising well here.
Dealing with the various departments of the state of New Hampshire is so quaint. Half the time you just have to drive up there to Concord, and the other half there's someone on the line, but nobody working at the back end, or it's just one old guy.

3/. He needs to go back.
@travis4nh An internet search says he is Somali and was brought over from Kenya in 2008. I pointed this out and a bunch of people were like "he was a really nice kid" and "he grew up here" (I pointed out that he's spent half his life here, the other half in Africa and prison. ). Growing.

1/ Central bank independence is probably coming to an end. In the short-term, this is due to radical and somewhat political moves made by the Trump administration. But in the long-term it is a failure of the ideas that were used to justify independence in the first place. 🧵

2/. concur!. "You can just do things" (destroy the New Deal apparatus).
@travis4nh Institutions != society, especially government institutions. They can be replaced, and rather quickly.

I tried to have a conversation with one once about the efficacy of statins, and whether they alter health outcomes, or if they alter a marker that is associated with health outcomes. We ended up each thinking the other was an idiot. One of us was right.

1/. "Conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition" is a quote a de facto campaign speech by a radical president who was intent on conquering a coequal nation of people who didn't want to be ruled by New England puritans, delivered almost a century after the Founding.
I think our ancestors would not have been especially confused at the claim that our nation was conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.

there's a variant: being mad at biology and demanding that the government censor people who tell the truth about it. e.g. Lionel Shriver's "Mania" or our actual world where you can't mention Things

> destruction of the occupied institutions
Elected leftists in central and local government drove the domination of all small state and semi-state institutions with their own people. It wasn't easy, they faced opposition from the institutions themselves, and setbacks when their opponents were in office. But they were.

Wow. Someone really really wants to get an H1-B. I guess that means that existing American workers should just roll over and accept being laid off, and existing American citizens should just consent to having their culture overrun. Never thought about it that way! Thanks James!
Do you know what it feels like to chase the American dream as a legal immigrant?. It starts with years of work in India, waiting, hoping, praying — just to enter the H-1B lottery. If they get lucky in the lottery, the petition moves to the USCIS. Endless months of silence. Will.
