Conor Lamb sends out statement on his loss to Fetterman:
"John’s vote in the Senate is essential to protect this democracy, and he will have my vote in November. I will do everything I can to help Democrats win."
@adrierising
Start a 401K as soon as it's offered to you. Splurge on things that truly make you happy, like those expensive concert tickets for an artist you may never get the chance to see again. Forgive yourself more easily for the mistakes you're going to make.
@waldojaquith
We saw this effect years ago at
@PGHCityPaper
when Jason Snyder photographed then mayoral candidate AJ Richardson. His facial tattoos show up on Heather Mull's photo on the right, but not Snyder's.
Fetterman sends out a press release about his victory in tonight's Pennsylvania U.S. Senate primary:
"We’re going to win in November the same way we won tonight – by fighting for every county, and every vote. Because every place matters, and no place deserves to be written off."
Update from Allegheny County director of communications:
"Please note that we are aware that a number of national outlets are reporting incorrect vote totals & over reporting the # of votes for Donald Trump, apparently bc of a typo. This is not an error on the county’s side"
I've been playing around with idea for awhile and think I'm gonna pursue it. 40 Over 40: profiles of worthy Pittsburghers over 40 years old. Maybe they found their calling later in life; maybe they've been killing it all these years unappreciated. Who should I interview?
The wonderful reporters of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette deserve better. It is has been so incredibly hard to take care of one's mental health while working in journalism this year, and I am so sorry for all of them having to carry this extra weight. I still support their work.
I saw water in the bathtub for the first time last night when driving home from work and I was so excited, it was like spotting a celebrity.
This tweet will make zero sense to people outside of Pittsburgh.
Get yourself a partner who stands by your decisions, even when financially scary, and heads out to get you mashed potatoes to cheer you up.
Grateful for him, and for the public support. I am lucky to be surrounded by so many people I love and admire.
Can I just share something nice? Yesterday, I told our building security guard how I was sad there was nowhere Downtown to get haluski, and she brought this in for me today! Her husband went to the store and made this for me last night! There is still kindness in the world! ❤️
Please join me in congratulating
@RyanDeto
who I'm happy to announce as
@PGHCityPaper
's News Editor. Ryan's hard work, incredible reporting, and dedication to the paper has been a huge part of our company's success, and he couldn't be more worthy of this promotion.
Pro-marijuana nonprofit
@NORML
PAC, sends out press release about Fetterman's victory in tonight's primary:
"It is time for politicians to wake up to the reality that this is a winning ballot box issue."
How can you support me? Continue to support the hard working journalists at
@PGHCityPaper
and help make sure they are treated better. Pick up next week's Election Guide and compliment the art direction and content. Read their stories.
It's my great honor to announce two promotions at
@pghcitypaper
: Please join me in congratulating CP's new Managing Editor
@RyanDeto
and A&E Editor
@AWaltzCP
Both Ryan and Amanda have been an integral part of our growth, and I'm so happy to have them and a great team by my side
UPDATE: Bill Peduto has canceled an interview on KDKA Radio because of Marty Griffin's remarks. (I want to add a personal note that I too very highly respect
@Lhayesfreeland
.)
Horrifying scenes and aftermath from selfish LOOTERS who don’t care about this city!!!!!
.... oh wait sorry. No, these are pictures from a Kenny Chesney concert tailgate. Whoops.
Continuing to see posts saying I resigned bc of the Post-Gazette strike. While I condemned Butler Eagle for scab printing in my exit post, I quit bc the Eagle president ordered me not to publish this info, which went against my hiring terms & would have destroyed CP's credibility
Attention

@Starbucks
beside Bill's Burgers is launching a Furryccino tomorrow and I just grabbed a sample! (Spoiler alert: It's delicious)

Not gonna lie. Been fantasizing about finding ways I could someday get
@alexisjreports
to join our staff, but can't hate on this star move! Congrats to Alexis on rising up from being treated poorly to being recognized nationally. 🎉👐
I know pageviews don't mean everything, & I'm very grateful for our
@PGHCityPaper
print readership which is still strong! But looking at our numbers & our online views are up 38.4% so far from 2019, and damn, that sincerely means so much after everything we've been through. 😢🙏
What's your favorite (cheap) spot to work remotely in Pittsburgh? Name-drop those great coffee shops with wifi and ample room. Gotta get out of this house more often!
I am so glad that I'm at the editor of an altweekly, and not employed at another media outlet that would restrict me from saying this with every ounce of my being: fuck racists and fuck mitch mcconnell and FUCK TRUMP.
Pro tip: If you ever unexpectedly lose your health insurance, ask all of your doctors if they can move appointments and get yr medicine refilled quickly. Grateful to doctors for quickly accommodating my requests before mine disappears on Tuesday 🙏
Every day, Black Pittsburghers and people of color are harmed by racists in Pennsylvania. Thank you to Pa.'s second lady for sharing her awful personal experience to draw attention to this problem.
TW: Hate speech
*TRIGGER WARNING* I love love love this country but we are so deeply divided. I ran to the local grocery store and was met by and verbally assaulted by this woman who repeatedly told me I do not belong here. The confrontation continued into the parking lot where I was able to

One thing I think the public forgets — or maybe, stops caring about? — during election season is that politicians are people with feelings who, while a personal choice, make a lot of sacrifices to run. Wishing everyone good mental health after tonight's results, win or lose.
After so many things going wrong, ending the year with some positivity. Applied for a small grant for some post-election coverage from Election SOS Rapid Response Fund, and got it. So a few freelance articles are popping up on
@PGHCityPaper
, which I'm very grateful for 🙏
A year ago today, I quit a job I loved.
Grateful to the friends I met along the way. Grateful to the community I served. And grateful I had the strength to leave.
Let me serve as a reminder that no job is worth compromising your ethics or sacrificing your mental health. ♥️
Deleted my previous tweet bc Deluca's posted a correction and I want to support local restaurants taking safety seriously. I've always loved Deluca's and am relieved to see this update
Why IDGAF when folks say I'm an oversharer: by posting freely and being myself online, I hope I'm showing others that it's OK to be human. I struggle daily with depression & anxiety, but also love life and being a goof.
#WorldMentalHealthDay
Dear
@CocaCola
, you're the reason I'm able to stay up all hours of the night putting out
@PGHCityPaper
. How about putting some of yr
#StopHateForProfit
money into media outlets like ours doing legit work. We could really use ad dollars right now.
Gonna be upfront here. We are going to be taking a hard look at what deserves our coverage in the future. Not everyone who begs for media attention deserves it.
The cover that never was.
(This was the rejected cover that photographer Heather Mull and I created for CP in 2012, inspired by Michael Gross' National Lampoon cover)
Asked a cashier if they could please do me a favor and pull their mask over their nose and they did and I didn't have a heart attack from anxiety from asking them to do it like I thought I might so maybe all of us just needs to keep doing this until everyone does? I dunno.
FROM THE INBOX: "May you and your fascist propaganda quickly come to a devastating end. You disgust me. Leave this great country and go to China, Russia, Venezuela, or Cuba where your kind raise. Patriots don't want you here."
He must know it's
@PGHCityPaper
's bday! 🥳🎁🎈
Finished a tough issue today. My office is always cold, so I took a few moments this afternoon to sit at Alex's old desk by this window to soak in the sunlight while I edited pages in this week's coming issue, dedicated to his name.
Only got one email today complaining about this week's cover. Surprised!
Changed concept at last minute & worked on this 'til midnight before print day
“It's confusing that in a city that touts graffiti-busting ... how white dudes making art alongside a highway underpass dressed in 'construction uniforms' weren't harassed or stopped by the cops” —
@DSKinsel
Does "upholding professional standards in journalism" include removing two stories from the website and replacing them with rewritten byline-free stories with new images?
This week's
@PGHCityPaper
Health Issue is focused on mental health & suicide awareness, dedicated to our colleague Alex Gordon, who recently died of suicide.
Today, most of the
@pghcitypaper
editorial staff gathered in person together for the first time in over a year, and some of them met in person for the very first time.
The most frequent talking point? Whether or not everyone was taller or shorter than they appeared on Zoom.
My paranoid, scared-of-vaccines sister who is in the 1A group and was resistant to getting the vaccine and had to be talked into it just got vaccinated and I'm so happy
It has now been two weeks since Alex died by suicide, and one week since
@PGHCityPaper
went public with the news and our small staff of less than 15 began to openly grieve. I don't reshare this just bc we can't forget, but to help the city remember.
Student journalists of

The P-G union is in process of re-running an election for Fuoco's permanent replacement, thanks to a snafu with the union's first mail-in election. But this is how temporary union president Ed Blazina addressed the Fuoco scandal: “I can tell you — he wasn’t handsy with me.”
Really, really bummed to just receive the member email alerting us that
@WESAconfluence
is ending. This show introduced me to so many local folks, and I greatly appreciate the time
@KevinOGavinPgh
and his team put into this fantastic program
Best idea in today's
@PGHCityPaper
editorial meeting: Pittsburgh media dodge ball league to work out all of our collective stress. Who's gonna compete against us?
Losing
@RyanDeto
is a huge loss, but I'm also really excited for some changes we have planned for
@PGHCityPaper
in 2022 & can't wait to see what ideas our next News Editor will bring. Love local politics? Fighting big biz? Having a good laugh? Join us!
Bye trolls 👋 We have removed the ability to comment from
@PGHCityPaper
's website. (Thanks to
@metrotimes
for the inspiration.) Just wishing I could at least temporarily do the same thing for Facebook until we have a full staff again.
Since this has come up a few times recently, including today when a
@PGHtransit
driver slammed on his horn and yelled at me for taking a photo of his bus on a crowded street, I thought it'd be good to remind folks that everyone has the right to take photographs in public spaces.
I'm coming out of vacation to say I take offense that Wendy Bell thinks that CP's coverage of her is all due to one hack guy. Let the record show that all of that one hack guy's coverage has to be approved by, ahem, one hack lady.
Wendy: “There’s one hack guy responsible for all the toxic, left-wing, marxist, progressive garbage, and he is so terrible it’s delicious”
Me: “That’s right”
