My new article in Strategic Studies Quarterly: The Missile Defense Review has many strengths but is insufficiently aligned with the National Defense Strategy, falling short of the central metric of sufficiency: complex & integrated air & missile attack. https://t.co/K96hYZUteY

President Trump on NYT reporting he's seeking $230 million from the DOJ in response to the investigations into him: "With the country, it's interesting because I'm the one that makes the decision, right? And that decision would have to go across my desk. And it's awfully strange

“They would need help for targeting, mission planning, just operating the weapon…The corollary benefit is control, inasmuch as the U.S. might not want the Ukrainians putting this through the window of the Kremlin.”

As with Hamas and the fighting in Gaza, bringing the Ukraine war to an end requires speaking the only language that Moscow understands: force, write Seth G. Jones and @tomkarako

There’s many challenges to making Ukrainian Tomahawks operational—e.g., limited ground launchers, the complexity of mission planning, targeting reliance, & real inventory limits. And it makes good sense to do it.
"It’s clear from Mr. Putin’s behavior throughout negotiations that the only way this war ends is by forcing Russia to the table," write @CSISDefense experts @SethGJones and @tomkarako. Read more in @WSJ:

Last week @tomkarako and the HTK crew channel their inner Marie Kondo. Does the MTCR still spark joy? Let us know what you think about their historical deep dive.
"The latest MTCR update is welcome, overdue, and wholly insufficient," writes @Missile_Defense expert @tomkarako. "The geopolitical, commercial, and strategic conditions under which MTCR began in 1987 are long gone." Read the full brief:

Despite the tedious litany of headlines & press releases about “shooting $4 million missiles against a $40,000 drone,” the majority of day to day CUAS engagements are in fact made by guns or CUAS effectors. Like Coyote.
In what is likely one of the single largest Counter sUAS system contracts ever awarded by the US Army, Raytheon was awarded $5+ Billion yesterday for the delivery of Coyote Missile System – Fixed, Mobile Coyote Missile Launchers, Kinetic and Non-Kinetic Interceptors, and Ku-band
