The league thought Adley Rutschman’s bat would make him a perennial All-Star. Instead, the glove is carrying the résumé while the stick slides south. How steep is the fall, and what’s hiding under the hood? Let’s follow the breadcrumbs. ⤵️
Adley Rutschman's decline is so bizarre and the Orioles don't seem to have a lot of confidence in a return to prior levels with his bat (or interest in contract extension) as they drafted the top two catchers available (Irish & Bodine), and already have one of the top catching

Competition matters—and blending it seamlessly with development is crucial for our summer athletes. For players like @ben_sho10, who are refining their arsenals, being able to iterate in the lab and immediately test adjustments in live scenarios is how we make progress.

You've probably heard of location and pitching models, but what exactly is the execution model Driveline uses? It all starts with better contextualizing command🧵⬇️
Janson Junk is breaking out this season — and it starts with elite pitch execution. His command of a five pitch mix has fueled a dominant first half 🔥

He can't keep doing it! If people you know still think Driveline Baseball is exclusively about Stuff+ and velocity... just know that we're only MOSTLY about those things. We're about command, too - especially with our new training methodologies... @JansonJunk @DrivelineBB

Want to actually train command? First, try reframing command. It’s a strategy, a pattern, and a training process. That’s where our tools come in: 🎯 Intended Zones Tracker 📈 Miss Distance & Location Run Values 🔁 Gamified Throwing Sessions It’s not guesswork anymore.

DECADE golfers don’t aim at every flag. Pitchers shouldn’t try to dot every edge either. Instead: - Know your stuff - Know your miss pattern - Pick smart targets based on situation - Train at transferrable intent

High CMD+ & Poor Location+ = bad strategy Low CMD+ & Good Location+ = maybe lucky, maybe understanding your miss bias If you don’t know where to aim, aim with your pitch shape in mind. Not sure? Your miss is usually in the pattern of the direction of movement

This is why pitchers with elite Stuff+ can afford to miss more or aim more middle. They still get outs even when command isn’t perfect. Their stuff/velo gives them more margin of error within Locations. Bad command -> have you improved your stuff for more wiggle room?

Now imagine it's 0-2 & you missed your spot… …but you threw your SL in the shadow zone, in a high chase & competitive area. "Bad Command+", but elite Location+. You “missed” into a great outcome.

Let’s say you throw a pitch a ball off the plate and hit your target exactly. That’s a high Command+. But… it’s 0-0 and he took it. Now you're behind in the count. Was that “good command”? Physically, yes. Strategically? Probably not.

Pitchers miss their spot all the time. Even MLB aces. Trying to be perfect is a trap - it’s about smart misses. Context matters. ⚾️ 0-2 count? You can miss off the plate. ⚾️ 3-1 count? You better know your highest % execution spot & pitch.

Here’s where golf comes in. DECADE Golf teaches players not to "flag hunt" Instead, they aim based on dispersion patterns and expected value. Misses are inevitable. So you plan for the miss. Same principle in pitching.

At Driveline, we separate command into two simple concepts: 🎯 Physical Command (Command+) – Can you hit your intended target? 🧠 Strategic Command (Location+) – Are you aiming at the right spots? They sound similar. But they’re not.

🧵You're Thinking About Command the Wrong Way You think it's just dotting corners. But command isn’t just about control. It’s targeting strategy, too. And believe it or not… it’s a lot more like golf. Specifically: @decade_golf ⛳️ @DrivelineBB
