If you, like Lottie Harris, are passionate about finding new models of care for children in OOHC, read more about her work undertaken for her PhD https://t.co/dJnrJIDeOu

Lay the foundation for a comprehensive, evidence-informed pathway for practitioners to provide effective mental health support to children and young people in out-of-home care (OOHC).
Here with my amazing colleague Lottie whose research on the experiences of maltreatment in the out-of-home care sector and the desperate need for new models of healing and recovery is inspirational.

No argument from me. "The Vatican's child protection board said Thursday (Oct. 16) the Catholic Church has a moral obligation to help victims of clergy sexual abuse heal, & identified financial reparations & adequate sanctions for abusers & their enablers as essential remedies."
Vatican report says clergy sex abuse victims need reparations and tangible sanctions to heal Just more words, or will we see real action for a change? https://t.co/krvdU9pYB5

It was great catching up with Georgia Stynes @abccanberra sharing young people's views on disability. "There's an assumption that people don't want be disabled... And that we would erase our disability if we could"..."we're proud and have lots to contribute". @abcnews

"Child sexual abuse by adults does not happen because of a lack of respect or consent. It happens because adults weaponise their power over children." Grace Tame in @crikey_news calling for a national commitment to grooming prevention. https://t.co/0F6aC1sKnd

For decades we have asked young people what they want and need. At the @MacKillopFS conference, @AnneGrahamCCYP challenges us to now act and gives examples of ways in which evidence can drive practice

Saying yes is overrated! Ten years ago, I said yes to everything. That's toxic. Conference presentations. Committee invitations. Student mentoring. Review requests. I thought it would accelerate my career. Instead, it nearly destroyed my sanity.

It's a shame that we aren't looking at ways to improve young people's access to services but, instead, are targeting social media which has little influence on mental health
Anthony Albanese & MSM media fail our children not disclosing weak evidence/opinion of global expertise for a social media ban to address MH crisis.Recent UK report β social media & smartphone use have small negative impact on mental health β @PatMcGorry

Australia at a 'turning point' for broken Working with Children Check system

As a nation we have been here before on catastrophic child safety failures and we will be here again unless the rhetoric is finally replaced by action.

A really helpful piece focusing on ways we can make childcare safer. I'd add the need for greater parental engagement, training and support so that there are many eyes on children and staff, that parents are confident in being able to identify and respond and can ask the right Qs
"This can be a turning point for Australia." Thank you Ben Mathews @QUT for this incredibly powerful and thoughtful piece in a week that is just awful for the affected families and children, and the communities they live, and for all parents and carers. https://t.co/9l7ZohDCY0
