My new paper with @CdnChildProtect examines the political abandonment of survivors of child sexual abuse material. We trace the distribution of CSAM of three survivors over the last five years and the impunity granted to offenders by Tor and commercial online services.

One analytical model shows that, as of November 5th, the dismantling of U.S.A.I.D. has already caused the deaths of 600,000 people, two-thirds of them children.

I can scarcely believe it: Marking the 50 th anniversary this week of the publication of Damned Whores and God’s Police. The book changed lives; it certainly changed mine.

Australia’s not as sexist as it was, but too many men still see women’s success as undermining their status.

Interesting that gamers were more outraged by Collective Shout's campaign than they were at West, or the half a million child sex offenders who downloaded the game, or Itch for hosting the game in the first place.

The game penalised players if they didn't abuse children. West was also found with extreme child sexual abuse material. This is exactly the kind of illegal child exploitation game - available on a mainstream gaming platform - that @CollectiveShout took action against.

Alec West convicted in April of making/distributing a child sexual abuse game, which he made available on Itch. The game was downloaded over half a million times. West made $891 000 from the game. https://t.co/ZlKhhOadGn

The QLD scheme sounds very similar to the WA sex offender registry. The evidence suggests these registries are accessed very rarely. A risk - not often acknowledged - is that these registries can be used by offenders to find each other.

Those who object to child protection safeguards in encrypted environments 🚨have to contend with the realities of these systems 🚨. Encrypted systems like Tor are crawling right now with millions of offenders. Their victims get younger each year and the abuse more severe.

But also - these offenders are not being detected through existing safeguarding measures. They are being detected by police via the images and videos they share online. Safety measures have not been developed to target this group.
