Okay Ma! Let's bring this home :)
Let's say I want a meal plan template for a toddler with Nigerian food.
I'll Google "toddler meal plan." (Try it out)

My parents are watching this

documentary and then my mom goes,
"Oh, girls are recording them now? We didn't have that technology in our time."

Traditional methods of hiring people should be overhauled! Look at the brilliance that ATS filters auto-rejected.
And it’s 2024. If you’re not building public proof, you’re doing yourself a great disservice.
Only the (most) visible will win.
It’s always zero marketing budget, never zero engineering budget.
But, there’s money to pay influencers. 🫵🏽
I’ll say this for free:
Start with a personalized strategy or risk throwing spaghetti at the wall with “marketing hacks” that get you nowhere.
No strategy, no direction.
Nigerian brands and companies need to pay more attention to SEO. So many low-hanging fruit keywords they could easily rank for and build DA with.
Easily.
Solely leveraging trends as a marketing strategy is short-term thinking.
Play the long game.
“The world is waiting to meet you” is not cliché. But the world will not find you behind a locked account, zero proof of ability and the fear of not being good enough.
This year, do everything to become the version of you that is “meet-able”.

Kaduna Twitter, I need your help.
It's a mini thread.
If you know anyone offering the following services, please tag them and retweet.
1. Small Chops
2. Outdoor Grilling
3. Plaques and Award Printing
4. Tribal Decorations
5. Stage Lighting
6. Event Sound Management
7. DJing
The journey home is surprisingly quiet amidst the street bustle from pedestrians and drivers. My father's eyes are fixated on the road, body stiff and upright like he is permanently attached to the steering.

I cannot overemphasize the benefits of applying yourself when you’re just starting out.
Volunteer, intern, pitch, do free work (yes). Look for opportunities to practice what you’re learning.
Hands-on work will take you places theoretical knowledge never will.
- Chop the video into reels, shorts, and TikToks.
- Write titles + headings + captions with SEO
- Embed the videos into the articles and case studies so they rank together! 🎉
- Use the article headings to create carousels.
“Create one, distribute forever!”
- Invite the user, create video testimonials.
- Use the video to create blogs and case studies.
- Use the blogs to create bite size social content.
- Use the social content to run ads.
- Use the case studies to create newsletters.
Create one... Distribute forever.
I've gotten a handful of DMs asking how I make the cool media in my posts.
It's
@canva
and I use it every week. Beginner-friendly; gets the job done.
If you're a Content Marketer, don't sleep on these usecases.
💟 Save for later.
The highlight is how this generation is using social media for quick answers instead of Google.
Imagine targeting this audience & writing a 2000-word ToFu article instead of just recording a <1 min TikTok video.
People want answers and they want them quickly. Cut the fluff.
Businesses that only pay niche influencers instead of “celebs” know what they’re doing.
Numbers are everything but count the right ones. Having macro influencers with nothing but impressions push your product will give you more exposure than actual sales.

Having doubts about whether or not your small business needs SEO?
In my first article of the year, I share eight solid reasons why SEO is still an important investment for your business in 2024.
Give it a read.

Everyone already knows how to market better than marketers but Oga-led marketing takes it to a whole new level.
It's when the person who hired your expertise leads and controls marketing ESPECIALLY with zero marketing experience. 🧵
I spent the last couple of weeks looking into a number of prominent people who “came out of nowhere” and I found one common factor: consistency.
Consistency is the most underrated “hack” to success in absolutely anything.
“Sorry for the silence. We’re back.” 🙄
The reason you’re always ghosting and apologizing to your audience is because you don’t have a content strategy.
Don’t be that brand/person in 2024. 🫵🏽
Ran out of cooking gas and my usual vendor was still on holiday so I Googled “gas delivery in «my location»”.
Called the company that invested in Local SEO, had a website and an IG page. They just sent a rider to me.
Discovery to payment took under 20 minutes.

This! I went from having a solid mental discography to only listening to songs if I need to score them or pray.
I prefer to listen to podcasts while powering through mundane chores because there’s always something new to learn, even subconsciously.
One thing I have admitted to myself recently is that it takes quality time to do quality work and to do quality work, I can only work with a very small number of people per time.
And that’s okay.
Stop making your readers feel stupid.
I bet anyone searching for "How to Schedule Emails" already knows what an email is.
Skip unrelated questions like:
🟣 "What is an email?"
🟣 "How many types of messaging are there?"
Wait for it...
🟣"Is email marketing dead?"
🧵
Is it that all the people that sell nice things are in Lagos and other places or that Kaduna businesses are not loud enough on Social Media?

If you see this tweet and you sell a product or service, please reply with pictures and a description. Thank you.
The easiest thing in Content Marketing is talking about how to do it.
But you see the actual work of doing it? Especially the “waiting for something you can measure and iterate” part? Tsk tsk tsk.
There are no magic tricks for success. Only patience and the will to try again.

Talk WITH, not AT your reader.
Notice I said reader, not readers.
If you’re looking to satisfy search intent, your writing should speak to one person.
How about:
“This is exciting! Thank you for making CD Care a huge part of your success story.
Would you mind giving us a video tour of your garment factory? Yes? Please send us a DM so we set it up. We can’t wait to meet you.”
Never miss an opportunity to make a case study.

We are so thrilled to see this. Thank you for your honest review. We appreciate your support and loyalty to the brand, and we promise always to deliver the best quality services.
Like A LOT of inquisitive people, I discovered SEO by accident.
Here's the story of how I thought I was hacked after writing a cluster of articles, only to find out my SEO had infact worked, but I'd wrongly linked to locked Google Docs instead of live articles.
Execution is the hardest part of bringing any project to life. The reason you’re burnt out is because you’ve refused to outsource the hard parts.
Ask for help today. If you don’t have the money to, barter an equally valuable service. Relationships too can be currency.
Content Writing Tip

“It will take less than three minutes to prepare this dish for your toddler.”
VS
“Cooks in under three minutes.”
OR
“Cooks before you finish singing Itsy Bitsy Spider.”
See what I did there?
Write shorter no-fluff sentences that pack strong punches.
Content Writing Tip

If 90% of your audience calls your product/service one thing, and you insist on calling it what the 10% call it, you’re leaving money on the table.
If most of your customers say ‘akara’ instead of ‘bean cake,’ prioritize the language of the majority.
Now imagine you had an article that's titled:
50 Meal Ideas and Recipes for Nigerian Toddlers [Printable Template]
And you:
- research and use relevant keywords your target audience is searching for and similar variations, in your blog post (see image below);

Instead of adding numbers or dates to your URLs, add them to the title tags and headings.
If not, you would need to use redirects when you:
- refresh the content ahead of another season, or
- add/remove info
And it can get messy.

Internal linking is an art.
Quick tips?
1️⃣ Ditch generic for descriptive anchor text
2️⃣ Link from relevant sections and pages to other articles in your cluster
3️⃣ Keep an eye out for linking opportunities as you plan and publish new articles
If you know me, you'd understand my undying love for Moi-Moi.
A few days ago, as I delicately unwrapped the leaves of this heavenly dish, I couldn't help but wonder:
What made Mrs. X's Moi-Moi so irresistible? 🤔
🧵⬇️
A lot of small business reps don’t know how to upsell.
“Not available.” ❌
“That item’s out of stock but we have this equally great one.” ✅
“Would you also like x item to go with this one you just bought?” ✅
I got featured in Summer of SEO—a 10-day email series with notes from a stellar lineup of SEO and marketing experts around the world.
I asked my LinkedIn audience to guess my topic and I got pretty interesting replies.
So, I thought to ask here too. What do you think I shared?
Businesses that only pay niche influencers instead of “celebs” know what they’re doing.
Numbers are everything but count the right ones. Having macro influencers with nothing but impressions push your product will give you more exposure than actual sales.
Woke up to 40+ new “sales” on my SEO and marketing resources.
If you just discovered me, welcome and thank you!
Three things:
- Did you find the resources helpful?
- What parts gave you light-bulb moments?💡
- What would you like me to teach in 2024?
Unstitched seams, upside down switches, missing screws, leaky taps, imperfect circles, unequal furniture legs, covers that don’t fit, cement on white paint, cement on doors, cement on tiles.
Zero conscientiousness.
There’s something missing with Nigerian craftsmanship. Not sure what it is but there’s something missing. We legit have some very talented folks but you see that final piece that brings something to excellence, we sadly haven’t cracked it yet.
Working for a company with perfect product-market fit is one of the most satisfying feelings in the world.
Your customers NEED you. They know it, you know it, everyone’s happy.
Appreciate loyal clients at the end of the year.
Send them ‘thank you for your business’ messages, emails, cards, merch, even hampers (if you can afford to).
Gratitude is an underrated way to retain clients.
KYA. KNOW your audience. Know what jobs they’re trying to get done. Know what they expect to takeaway from what you’ve written and what CTAs would be a no-brainer.
Write accordingly.
Some of my biggest writing projects have come from referrals, & 60% of my referral network is made up of web developers & designers.
Someone needs to write copy/content for their new projects.
If you’re a writer, this is your cue to network wisely. When they eat, you eat.
I’m raising a glass (of freshly squeezed orange juice) to the lovely people who, this year:
- mentioned my name in important conversations,
- trusted me with their business,
- engaged with my content and,
- referred me for work.
Thank you and see you in 2024. 🥂
To me, marriage is a good excuse to live with your best friend forever.
This one that people are always flipping coins to find the head or tail in every situation.
Does it really have to be that serious?

Would you speak to people 30 years older than you the same way as a group you’re 30 years older than?
No?
Then, why do you write ONE type of content for ALL your customers?
Cater to individual needs & personalize their experience of your brand.
Content Writing Tip

When you have to write about popular or overflogged topics, find a unique angle or POV.
So, instead of “How To Grow on Social Media as a Creator”
Try:
- How To Ruin Your Social Media Career Before it Starts
Or:
- How NOT To Grow on SM as a Creator

Instead of depending on only keyword research to find out what pain points your audience has, check:
- Comments on your posts
- Support tickets
- Reviews
- PAA
Or ask them directly via:
- Polls
- Surveys
- Customer interviews
You probably have heard these:
"Your network is your net worth."
"It's not what you know; it's who you know."
"If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together."

Don’t solely rely on keyword research tools and Google to find low-competition keywords.
Check:
- Tweets and replies
- Facebook groups
- TikTok search
- Subreddits
Social media is a search engine.

Heavy takes on this ad by people who clearly don’t believe in the power of earning mindshare.
The goal is not always conversion. It’s that when the buyer is at decision stage, whether next week or next year, you’re top of mind.
The best CTAs are the least obvious ones anyway.
Randomly thinking of this company that penalizes their staff for not leaving comments on official social media posts.
“This brand has organic engagement,” meanwhile it’s just everybody at the office under duress to say “Hmm, nice post” five times a day.
I’m tired of saying “stop plagiarizing me” so I’m going to start calling people out, and I’m doing it on whatever platform they get the most hailing on.
I’ve sent private messages, but if there are no changes before Friday then Episode 1 of The Scapegoat debuts on Saturday.
How to get free backlinks:
- Create industry-standard linkable assets. Share in niche forums.
- Find broken links you can replace with your content on sites with high DA. Pitch the editor.
- HARO/HAB2BW, if you’re a SME.
- Guest post.
- Beg. 💀
A brand is not just a logo or some colours.
A brand is an experience.
What experience do your customers have with your product/service?
That’s your brand.
Home. A misplaced destination. I like to think it is just a house where I can trade my peace in exchange for a bed and food. Sometimes it takes more, sometimes it gives more; you take what you get and keep breathing regardless.
Completing that course, reading that book, or watching that video won't change your life.
It's what you do after that will make a difference.

- Solve their pain points
- Use relevant keywords
- Be consistent and authentic
- Create platform-friendly content
- Repurpose best-performing content
