8. Doing an 8-hour road trip on a motorbike just to see another ancient cathedral. To be honest, you don’t need to see all the sights in a place. Also there are many ancient cathedrals all over the world. You’ll be alright.

7. Ignoring the weather forecast because I packed for aesthetics and traveling light vibe. LOL the way rain will beat you and the cold will show you pepper.

6. Refusing to voice out my discomfort because I wanted to be polite. If something is bothering you, speak up.

5. Stayed longer in a city because someone on Instagram said “the magic is in the second week.”.If you aren’t feeling it after 7 days, it is probably never meant to be.

4. Trusting Maps blindly. My dear, please ask for the best thing that works locally and use it.

3. Eating a local “delicacy” without asking what it was first. You deserve peace of mind so ask questions. I’m still mentally wrestling with the fact that I have eaten a *insert the most scandalous thing you can think of here*.

Things I have done while traveling that you shouldn’t do because you deserve better. 1. Landing at night in a new country for the first time. Whatever you are trying to save, it is not worth it. 2. Not having at least 3 options of international cards to make payments with.

My friends in Lagos randomly do this thing where when someone cooks, they randomly go “I just made fish stew/ just ordered cake sending to your house now”. Community >>>>>

Random question that just crossed my mind. Why did the tortoise feature so prominently in our Nigeria folklore? I can’t seem to draw any immediate connection with the tortoise culturally. What am I missing?.

I love how infectious gardening is. Housekeeper showed me seeds from store bought bell peppers we got & said she’ll like to plant them in the garden. I recalled she had planted some scotch bonnet earlier so asked about them, the way her face lit up as she told me they’ve sprouted.

I’ve noticed millennials focus on luxury and budget travel (typically few in-between) but Gen Z seem to be focusing on something else that has now caught my attention. Wellness travel (a trend previously more common among older Millennials and Boomers).

ps: my travel style is intentional so the places mentioned are places I know you’ll get a bit of feel of culture without even trying too hard. It is also why resort-island countries don’t feature much. Those are of course mostly 10/10 for a hassle free no surprises vacation.
