The Abby Zwerner case needs to be talked about in teacher circles. This teacher and other professionals were ignored when they raised concern about a student. This is happening far too often.

New staff member does not know his students names. It's end of October. I come around for ISS work as part of running errands for the front office (I don't teach two class periods a day to aide there) and he consistently has to look up what class they are in bc he has no idea 🤡

New staff member who has in fact been a student in a public school sometime after Columbine asked if students should be quiet during a lockdown drill. Like my goodness bro I sure hope so

New staff member who has only taught college before deliberately did not attend a meeting because he had to lesson plan. We were all flabbergasted at his gall which really demonstrates that teachers are not treated like adults.

@sage_stage The fallacy that a teacher has to call the parent before admin does anything is a cop out by administrators everywhere. Why does the teacher need to be punished twice for misbehaving students? It’s literally the APs job to pick up the phone!

Drop ins, walk throughs, classroom visits. Whatever you want to call them. There are practical, non-threatening, systematic ways to do this, that embed the science of learning And there are worse ways. I work with schools to fix this, and it is not beyond anyone’s reach.

I’m convinced that if every parent had to volunteer just one week in their child’s classroom, educators would get a lot more respect.

A sizable chunk of the profession correctly believes novice students shouldn’t be left to discover things on their own, but seem to not care too much about that novice teacher across the hallway, who is forced by this janky system to discover teaching on their own.

For all this platform’s flaws, it’s helped me, my teaching, and my students more than any PD I’ve ever experienced. For example, yesterday I shared a blog on a strategy and it sparked conversations with and between peers from the UK, Spain, and Sweden. That’s pretty special.

The use of the phrase 'prison camps' for schools today is ridiculous. The level of care, individual attention and accommodation for any and all excuses for often awful behaviour is unprecedented. Surely anyone, like me, who went to school in the 90's/early 00's would say that.

Who cares if a school handed out the ‘most suspensions in a day/week/month’, if they needed to do that to secure the future of ALL the children in the school, then absolutely the right thing to do, no?

Dreading dealing with ODD this semester. At least the parent is supportive but oof. I just don't want my classroom destroyed and I don't think that's too much to ask....

I think the enthusiasm of the teacher has a bigger impact on student engagement than the lesson itself. Passion can transform any classroom.
