Ended up being a pretty good 75% day. 75% of the kids were here 75% of the staff. Gave a pretty simple lesson that took 75% of the class period and left the rest to catch up or relax. And about 75% of the kids in class actually did the work

Please be teaching until the exact moment that winter break begins. The work needs to be rigorous. Also, these 200 students earned a movie in the auditorium please send them down. These 150 students who earned a party in the cafeteria. Carolers will be roaming in the halls

Students A and B are loudly speaking in Spanish during work time in class. Student C starts loudly complaining and accusing them about talking about him. I don't think they are, but I don't know what they are talking about. Students A and B now accuse student C of bullying

Not even 6 am yet and they are already sending out the coverage list and warning us there's a lot of names. People with a short commute might not even be awake yet and just might go back to bed if they see this.

About once a month I get an email from someone at my old school from someone who thinks I am still in the building. My replies are always hilarious

If you aren't able to or willing to do any of that, you will get an easier course load and the same pay

If you are good at discipline, they will give you more of the poorly disciplined students. If you are good at building one on one relationships, they will give you more needy kids. If you follow the IEP or 504 faithfully, you get a lot more of the SPED students

Guidance counselor: Ok, so what happened? Student: He said I was on my phone during the test and I wasn't! Me: I was standing right behind you, I could see you taking a picture of the test Guidance counselor: So it sounds like we are just arguing back and forth now

On my hall monitoring duty and run across a group of students in the stairwell gathered around the window. "Hey good morning guys, make sure you are on your way to class" Mr. Sage, Jacob is getting arrested out there "Scooch over, I wanna see too"

The teacher next door is super stressed out about how the updated lesson doesn't come out until right before we are supposed to give it. I don't really want to let on that I'm ignoring the updated lesson and just letting it play out for a year

One of the ways I'm avoiding stress this year is by not using the districts lessons. At least not this years. They don't come out until the last minute and then everyone scrambles to go over them and get the materials. I've been quietly doing my own thing

They told us to be bold when setting our student goals for this year. So I didn't submit mine at all

Ran into a student in the hallway while on hall duty and try to find out where he should be. Student: Can you just leave me alone? This is a school, we aren't exactly in the "how can we leave the students alone today?" business

Admin: I just had (PITA students name) in my office. He told me your class was his favorite. Good job. If I'm going to be pessimistic here, this is the path to being given progressively more PITA students until it becomes too much again

While I'm on the football game, the marching band didn't actually match, they just kinda walked. Also, they had a "featured singer". Marching bands don't have featured singers

Thought my mental health was doing better. But then someone sat in my seat at the football game and I am irrationally pissed off about it.

Since it's the end of the quarter, I traded out one of our traditional tests, that many kids fail, with a small project, that most kids get an A or B on. This was to give them a nice grade at the end of the quarter. They are complaining about it
