Honoured to meet the titan of Indian science and my inspiration, Prof. P. Balaram (former Director of @iiscbangalore), at his office in @NCBS_Bangalore. Probably the most memorable day of my life ! We spoke for over 1.5 hours on a wide range of topics.

A few years later, two of the greatest organic chemists in the world: Woodward from @Harvard and Eschenmoser from @ETH_en achieved what is often regarded as the āEverest of organic synthesisā:-the total synthesis of Vitamin Bāā. A 12 year effort with nearly 100 postdocs.
Vitamin B12 structure determination by Dorothy Hodgkin was a tour de force. It's mind-boggling to imagine that such a complex exquisite molecular structure was solved at the atomic resolution 70 years ago in 1955. It was such a quantum leap in structural chemistry and biology.

During his undergraduate studies at the @UChicago , Carl Sagan attended the historic lecture in which Stanley Miller first unveiled the iconic MillerāUrey experiment, subsequently published in @ScienceMagazine in 1953 - which left Sagan deeply inspired.
In my laboratory at Cornell University we work on, among other things, prebiological organic chemistry, making some notes of the music of life. -Carl Sagan, Cosmos (1980). It'd have been fascinating to work with him to address the central question of our existence on this planet.

A maiden visit to @NCBS_Bangalore to meet Prof. P. Balaram. As expected, the Bangalore institutes never fail to impress with their stunning campuses! This was my third visit to a Bangalore institute, after IISc and JNCASR.
