Today the Gautrain bus driver asked me if someone was waiting for me. I told him no, so he dropped me off at the end of my street, instead of the bus stop, waited until I had walked up the street and then hooted to let me know he was leaving...I guess he’s been watching the news.

This case brings to light how perpetrators of apartheid were not held accountable and more specifically prevented from being held accountable by high ups in the new government post ‘94. They pranced freely and successfully through the lives they terrorized

A widespread misconception about ML is that models are neutral/objective & just reflect the data fed into them. Modeling choices encode strong assumptions about the data, and further, the way you use your model in your application reflects your own understanding of the problem.

@tashadrinkstea I watched this trailer a few months ago and cried. I’ve never watched a movie that is solely about a kickass character that looked like me. The whole movie, about someone who looks like me. But now I must struggle to watch it because of nonsense like this? Mxm

@hardmaru I don’t think I like this. GPT-3 is too powerful for everyone to have access to, so we give access to a corporation that already has too much money, so they can monetize it and make more money?

I've come to realize how truly wide and valuable my skills & experiences are. Winning the battle against imposter syndrome😭 Very few people are aware of even a % of the things I have worked on, or have any idea what my strengths are - I wear many hats after all 🎩🎓🤠🥳⛑️👒🧢

In our upcoming paper, we use a children's picture book to explain how bizarre it is that ML researchers claim to measure "general" model capabilities with *data* benchmarks - artifacts that are inherently specific, contextualized and finite. Deets here:

Major face palm 🤦🏾‍♀️ when modern science is based on modularity and the “experts” are unable to comprehend the connectedness of the universe.
