Barcelona won a league with a disallowed clasico goal for Gareth Bale and are under investigation in rhe Negreira scandal. Not saying Madrid haven’t been the beneficiaries of bad decisions at times, but Barca fans probably shouldn’t open that can of worms.
Others are welcome tho
Vinicius literally starting as a striker against City and Bayern but people will still ask the stupid question of how Mbappe can fit at Real Madrid on the left.
Mbappe will fit so well, he won’t even be playing the same position from game to game.
Watch out.
Step 1: Unearth 16-18 year old talents
Step 2: Run them into the ground, cut corners on medical/support staff and lament their ‘unlucky’ injury issues instead of taking responsibility.
Step 3: Unearth new talents
Alaba replaced Sergio Ramos in a way that Madridistas thought impossible. He's been shaky this season, struggled aerially, and it's hard to say if he ever starts for Madrid post-ACL, but only a genius IQ player could slot in for Ramos the way he did in 21/22. Natural leader.
Two late clasico winners for Jude Bellingham in his first season in charge. Might go on to win the double. From the fanbase complaining about not signing a striker and losing the starting CBs & GK to this. What a fairytale start for Jude.
When City won the final thanks to Ederson people were praising John Stones’ role in possession.
Nobody on Inter came out and said only one team played football.
Rodri is being a sore loser coming up with excuses as to why his positional ideology failed to win.
@rajsinghchohan
City recruitment since the pandemic has reached the Madrid tier. City and Madrid in a tier of their own when it comes to recruitment IMO. Terrifying that City are now doing it with Guardiola and stability.
Next they’ll poach De Zerbi and give him the same tools for 5 years.
If a La Masia graduate had a team playing as well as Carlo’s Real Madrid right now we’d be getting so many threads, diagrams, videos breaking down his ‘tactical genius’ but it’s Carlo and Real Madrid so it gets ignored lol.
I knew Camavinga would be better than Ferland Mendy. But that much better? Bit unexpected.
Camavinga is gonna have to be the left back in big games this season, and Real Madrid will need to sign someone of Alphonso Davies' caliber to displace him without it affecting the team.
Davies, Alaba, Kroos.
Bayern treble winning generational talents running down their contracts to join Real Madrid on bargain deals is becoming football heritage!
Real Madrid and Alphonso Davies have reached a verbal agreement for the Bayern left-back to join in 2024 or 2025
There are two options on the table with Real open to doing a deal for a below-market price this summer — much like Toni Kroos’ move in 2014 — or the following year…
Seems like the reports of Jude’s ego from Dortmund were largely a result of Dortmund’s mediocre players being unable to handle a youngster’s criticism, as opposed to an issue with Bellingham himself.
Chelsea fans telling everyone Rudiger wouldn’t work in a back 4 was their way of coping with the fact they lost one of the best in the world for free 🤣
Pintus, Carlo, Davide Ancelotti and everyone else behind the scenes are doing a phenomenal job. Real Madrid has a ton of talent. Every player is growing in their roles and competing for spots in training.
Long way to go, but I like Real Madrid’s treble chances.
Mbappe will help Madrid's transition moves, Endrick may too. But that Manchester City tie also showed that Trent Alexander Arnold would be an invaluable weapon to have for transition offense. With just 1-2 touches from anywhere he can create danger in the opposition half.
“I learnt that the quicker the play moves the less physical the game is. When the game moves fast you have to think fast. When the game moves slowly it gives physical players an opportunity to be close & to be more effective" - Luka Modrić 🗣
Rest factor could be massive:
Manchester City have 5 games scheduled ahead of the 1st leg, including Arsenal and Aston Villa
Real Madrid only have 2 games, including a 9 day break before the first leg.

@KiyanSo

So Carlo goes with Tchouameni over Nacho, because Cama can both offer enough defensively to replace Tchouameni but also help beat City's press with his ball-carrying.
Mendy and Cama protecting Kroos on the left, and Fede protecting Carvajal on the right.
This will be fun!
Jude - Vinicius - Rodrygo in transitions against a high press are incredible. Movement. Speed. Dribbling. Unpredictability in zones of influence and off-ball runs. Alternating coming short and going long. Just hard to box this team in. Brahim off the bench will be a treat too.
Chelsea fans telling everyone Rudiger wouldn’t work in a back 4 was their way of coping with the fact they lost one of the best in the world for free 🤣
Real Madrid have created chances while largely stifling City in the final third. Great response to going down so early.
Could’ve scored another in transition and should put it away in the 2nd half.
Only Liverpool have given City even close to as many issues in recent memory.
Xavi was superior to everyone cognitively as a player. Lots of parallels now as a coach.
He’s gonna win a ton of titles at Barcelona.
I remember when twitter tacticos took a couple of his comments about Barcelona signings out of context to berate him.
A classic. Madrid looked better for a lot of the 1st half but City were more composed and played a quality 2nd half. City get home field advantage but tie is still in the balance ahead of Etihad - a lot more than last year as Madrid will threaten more offensively this time.
You don't win that penalty if you take Rodrygo off for Brahim! Honestly a huge decision, especially because Carlo hadn't made the same choice against City.
Like the decision to take Jude off. As much as you want to keep his goal threat on, when he's this tired after a tough defensive shift late in the game I'd rather go with a more energetic Rodrygo/Vinicius/Brahim. Just run with whoever's got the most energy of the 4.
Yep this is the key for Real Madrid: Bellingham and Brahim are more dangerous and versatile dribblers than Benzema and Asensio.
With Camavinga, Fede, Vini and Rodrygo also around this is the best dribbling team in world football that can escape a press like no other side.
🎙| Ancelotti: "We have different qualities from last season. We had Benzema, now we have more mobility in attack and this will be very important tomorrow. No fixed positions."
Last season’s Real Madrid had predictable intentions at times: access Benzema, use him as a trigger to release Vini.
This season we see Bellingham offering a slightly more decentralized dynamic.
The team can progress in new ways, have more dribblers, and are less predictable.
I can’t believe we’re here.
Absolutely no reason for Luka Modric to get significant game time this season.
Kroos, Camavinga, and Tchouameni should take the bulk of the CM minutes with Ceballos being first off bench.
Fede and Jude competing further forward.
Thomas Tuchel still wants a
#6
& Aurélien Tchouaméni is at the top of his list. Initial contact with the player's camp took place. Tchouaméni has asked a France teammate about Bayern. He can imagine a move to Munich if he's not guaranteed a starting spot at R Madrid [
@kerry_hau
]
Looks like Florentino asking Rodrygo for his shirt worked its magic. What a huge goal for Rodrygo with the stretch coming up.
Also, ridiculous weak foot long switch from Brahim to create that sequence.
Ceballos making the “Spanish CM rounding out his football IQ and entering his prime” leap we saw from Thiago and even Xavi. Experience matters for CMs.
Ceballos’ apprenticeship was long and tedious, but it’s finally over. A dominant CM has arrived.
Notes on Tuchel v Ancelotti:
So much happened in that first leg, but as Carlo himself accepted Bayern won the battle in open play, and I find myself wondering what Carlo has in store for Tuchel at the Bernabeu.
The 15 minutes at the start of the game, while tough for Real…
It's March 23rd and Bayern are trying to sack Nagelsmann before a CL quarterfinal and Brazilian players are casually, openly joking about Ancelotti coaching the national team while he's Madrid coach.
What is going on lol.
@idoxvi
If Madrid makes him play like an ISO winger in this fashion he'll have plenty of bad games for sure. Fortunately that shouldn't be the case with the talent and executive decision making at Madrid.
Crazy to see how much differently Ancelotti is spoken about now that he’s added these latest Real Madrid achievements to his CV.
2017, the Bayern players were complaining he wasn’t pushing them hard enough, and Lewandowski implied he was the reason for injuries.
🗣️ Robert Lewandowski: "Carlo Ancelotti is a great guy, he spoke to the players a lot at Bayern. It's not easy to come to Germany as a foreigner, I think if we got through the difficult phase, then an era would have been possible with him."
🚨 According to the rules, you can't go back to punish a player for a foul after calling an offside - if Tchouaméni was booked, then it should've been whistled a foul for Getafe too. Therefore, the decision from the referee was incorrect.
@marca
#rmalive
Despite struggling to hold the ball for long periods of the tie, all things considered the team was phenomenal defending over two legs.
Just lacked an extra versatile forward or two to punish City.
Luckily Kylian Mbappe solves this.
Brahim Diaz is better than Martin Ødegaard.
Diaz is a superior athlete and far better dribbler.
Odegaard needs a specific system around him where his teammates occupy specific spaces so that his (elite) passing range gets unlocked.
But he’s just not as threatening as Brahim.
Florentino Perez is great but not signing a CB in January might go down as one of the stupidest decisions he’s ever made.
The CB would pay itself back with prize money that is now in danger of being lost.
Good finances are useless if they can’t be used on insurance signings.
Jude's growth outside the box as a connective midfielder since November has been unbelievable to watch. This exact evolution is why some neutrals wanted to see him in Spain.
When Barcelona fall to the Europa League, just remember:
They’re not gonna stop existing as a club due to loss of revenue just because all your fav twitter fanalysts are crying about it and want it to be true. They are gonna find even more money and sign Messi.
Ramos had to deal with a lack of defensive structure to a degree that Pique, Van Dijk and many other great center backs never did.
Mathematically speaking, if you tally it all up, I feel he dealt with dangerous transition situations more often than any player we’ve ever seen 👇
These were the types of threats Ramos had to deal with weeks in weeks out. Either kill it young or it gets out of hand.
Restless defense, I’d say. Some call it hero-ball.
Not only do you have to read plays and anticipate flawlessly, you would have to also act simultaneously and…
I remember when United fans were upset and underplayed signing Varane bc they had Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire’s “superior ball playing” already 😂😂
Even the least technically skilled players on that Madrid team were cold winners 👍
Zidane’s threepeat was great, but the way Carlo got fired and seeing Benitez get handed the depth that Carlo needed never sat right with me. Happy for Carlo. Never forget his career arc between the Madrid spells wasn’t going too well. Still can’t believe he was at Everton. Wild!
🚨 In the summer, Ancelotti was only guaranteed to stay on until June 2024, so he was more interested in improving the current squad than in polishing the next one.
Now with his renewal, he only nodded & acknowledged that Florentino’s strategy made perfect sense.
@relevo
Fede Valverde has been just about as impactful as Toni Kroos this season.
He can go toe to toe with any CM in world football at the moment.
A 99th percentile athlete, defender and ball carrier at CM, who now steps up in first phase buildup and helps control games.
Unicorn.
Federico Valverde is averaging career highs in passing volume, pass completion rate, progressive carries, progressive passing, clearances, and successfully tackling dribblers better and more often than before.
His 77.2 touches p90 are over 10 more than his previous career high.
Like the decision to take Jude off. As much as you want to keep his goal threat on, when he's this tired after a tough defensive shift late in the game I'd rather go with a more energetic Rodrygo/Vinicius/Brahim. Just run with whoever's got the most energy of the 4.
Kroos - Modric dynamic tonight is what I wanna see going forward.
Kroos attracted Barcelona's press. Didn't build up well with him on the pitch, but forced Barca's markers to press/cover him in exhausting fashion.
Then Modric in a free role was the perfect change up.
Pretty good half from Real Madrid overall. Initially had some phenomenal buildup sequences and got the early goal. Then struggled to buildup for a bit but they’re going to a 4-5-1 block more often which is doing a better job defending City than the 4-4-2 from the first leg.
Well, smart of Xabi Alonso to just wait for Real Madrid outright.
Best of all worlds for Real Madrid: Ancelotti for one more season followed by Alonso with a superteam in 2025.
Liverpool are better than Bayern, especially with a more clear hierarchy in place once again they should be incredible, but between Bellingham and Tchouameni they can’t really compete for the players Real Madrid sign.
Smart of Xabi to seek a clause to leave at any point.
@rajsinghchohan
The random goals and the random chances they've created out of random moments have helped disguise how bad the intent has been from Enrique with Mbappe.
Why did Jude Bellingham and Rodrygo play yesterday’s dead rubber?
Disclaimer: this is speculation. Just a guess on my part. But with so much anger towards the coaching staff that is quite justifiable without additional context, I figured I'd thrown in my 2 cents.
I believe Jude…
BellinGOAT has literally doubled his xG90 from Dortmund to Real Madrid.
Sure he may not score a goal a game his movement is at a completely different different level to when he was in Germany.
1 goal every other game player at minimum.
Will hit 30 goals this season.
That finish from Bellingham was a pure striker's finish. He's a goalscorer. You can't tell me all this is a fluke, because it isn't. There's a reason why he's scoring so much. His off ball movement, his striking ability, the power, everything is at an elite level.
Derby defeat was tough on several levels but outside that hard to complain about Real Madrid’s start to La Liga. Best possible start for Jude. Vinicius casually missed a month without team dropping many points. Kepa has been good.
Carvajal’s health dictates floor and ceiling.
Benzema - the best striker we’ve ever seen outside the box, but frustratingly inconsistent inside the box until Cristiano Ronaldo left Real Madrid, when he suddenly started carrying the entire offense.
A case study of a career that should be studied for decades to come.
Bellingham might be the closest thing we’ve seen to Alfredo Di Stefano. Not saying he’s as good - as Di Stefano is in the GOAT-tier of footballers, so I don’t want to get ahead of myself - but comparable in profile and breadth of impact for sure.
Tchouameni will be key to track and assigning responsibility for Harry Kane's movements as he leaves Rudiger/Nacho's zone.
Camavinga will be a devastating weapon off the bench in the 2nd half.
Florentino Perez is actually insane adding Trent Alexander Arnold, Alphonso Davies, Leny Yoro, Endrick and Kylian Mbappe to this Real Madrid team.
The Bernabeu will see a treble sooner than later.
So if you haven’t kept up.
- Benzema is literally fit.
- Deschamps sent him home to preserve Griezmann’s morale and team dynamic instead of having the uncertainty of when he’s returning linger.
- Benzema is fit. Benzema and Zidane turned down invites to watch the game.
Real Madrid looked so locked in even before the classic big game Vinicius banger. Extra locked in because they know they can’t afford complacency with no natural center back playing.
Great advertisement against taking your body for granted.
Lots of people will procrastinate behavioral change, let vices seep into their lives, and neglect their body till its too late.
Hazard will go down as one of the most infamous examples of the dangers of poor preparation.
🗣️ Eden Hazard: “Arriving overweight in Madrid? With Chelsea I had just finished one of the best seasons of my career. I said to myself: ‘Now that I'm at Real, these are perhaps the last vacations in which I will be able to enjoy.’
I let myself be carried away as I leave myself…
He should be used like Xavi in 2015: coming on to close out games by slowing them down with the ball.
When Xavi came on with Barca holding a lead, you knew it was over.
Enough of the remontadas.
The squad can physically and technically overpower most teams.. take advantage.
@Patrik79070134
@mxris13
@TacticalFouling
Madrid would benefit more if he comes on as a fresh player after like 60th mins. He would definitely have game winning moments if he's used like that. When they start they are too slow,stay back a lot and can't win the ball back immediately.
Unpredictability. Spontaneity. Relationism.
Why beating City was more than just a victory in the Champions League, it was a victory of one fundamental philosophical approach (trust players' intuition, react instinctively) over another (dominate with positional pre-rehearsal).
Bayern are playing a much more vertical game than City, closer to Leipzig's, seemingly creating more potential danger.
But unlike City they're so narrow that Madrid can defend just the box, and Bayern are rushing/forcing their attacks and Madrid inevitably recover.
Bayern are not overwhelming because their attackers are not threatening dribbling in transition 1v1 situations outside Musiala, Kane is threatening as a shooter and passer but Muller/Sane aren't that scary 1v1. Without Davies and Coman nobody is providing width either.
@jair1970
Always find it interesting that he was pretty solid at free kicks at one stage of his career.. then one day he wasn’t.
That someone at the top of the game lost his free kick skill entirely after the 2014 injury
@nonewthing
Agreed. He has never been in charge of first and second phase buildup, his role is not to control tempo and make his teammates comfortable at retaining possession. While he can be compared to tempo controllers, their job was not to constantly accelerate play like De Bruyne.
City are now 3 points off Liverpool and 1 point off Arsenal.
Arsenal forced them to try low probability crosses, giving them no room to breathe through the middle.
With better attackers, like a Vinicius, Arsenal could’ve done more damage.
Etihad blueprint for Madrid 📝
I am convinced everybody is overthinking this.
Kylian Mbappe will find a spot other than the left wing and Kylian Mbappe will thrive at Real Madrid.
Rodrygo through the middle with Mbappe playing off him on the right is quite plausible and feasible.
Real Madrid looked so locked in even before the classic big game Vinicius banger. Extra locked in because they know they can’t afford complacency with no natural center back playing.
Benching Varane because of buildup angles even though you can’t actually buildup against half decent opposition anyways is pathetic.
Giving up soft goals for 5 straight games and being on the brink of CL elimination is a poetic consequence.
Erik Ten Hag choosing Johnny Evans over 4 time CL winner Raphael Varane due to theoretical buildup advantages, ignoring Varane's defensive ability in the process, epitomizes the caricature of Cruyff/Ajax/Total Football valuing positional play over pragmatic, concrete results 🤮
Don’t have data to back this but Real Madrid’s young midfielders seem tall by football standards.
Nico Paz: 6’1’’
Jude Bellingham: 6’1’’
Eduardo Camavinga: 6’0’’
Fede Valverde: 6’0’’
Tchouameni: 6’2’’
Love how much athleticism they offer collectively.
Nico Paz left foot and technical ability is what has made him stand out but equally as impressive is his physicality.
He is yet to fully mature and fill out his frame but already has physical tools that will help him combat / compete with the biggest of defenders.
Vazquez struggled but even Carvajal might have some problems against Musiala, he’s one of the toughest matchups for any defender.
Musiala looked harder to defend than Grealish because Bayern’s offense is more unpredictable than City’s and allows for more dribbling and risks.
Klopp’s Liverpool losing 2 title races by 1 point means casuals will question him the same way they question Cristiano Ronaldo’s La Liga record (2 wins in 9 years).
Putting up 90+ points in the Premier League or La Liga is indicative of greatness even if you don’t win the title.
Comparing this Barcelona to 2009 Barcelona as a rebuttal to this is willful ignorance.
Barca were better run and positioned in 2009 wrt wage structure, transfer budget and finances.
Pep is the reason they were historic but Mourinho almost signed for them, they had 💰💰💰
@JohyanCruyff
Pep taking on a challenge where the balance of the squad needs addressing and with financial restrictions, there is more chance of pigs flying
@MattW_MM
He'd played a lot of bad games this season! We needed to see him play his best or one of his best games of the season. No doubt he delivered.
This will be amazing in possession. Barcelona will struggle to contain this setup at all speeds in large and small spaces.
Just wonder if it will be enough out of possession.
Too bad Mendy being out means we don’t get to see Yamal v Mendy.
