Chelsea clashed against the Champions of Europe PSG to become Champions of the world, & they not only won, but did it in a very convincing fashion against arguably the best team in the world, so how did Maresca & his men make it look so easy? THREAD:

Execution was also an issue, here Santos & Gusto are on different lines so Gusto has a bit more time on the ball, however he tries a pass into Pedro that’s easy for Burnley to read He could’ve added some disguise & found Chalobah who could’ve carried to create a 3v2 wide

Maresca changed to a box midfield later in the game👍 However we could’ve made use of that midfield advantage more, e.g. as Cucurella drops Santos stays still so they’re on the same line, perhaps Santos could be slightly higher & Cucurella could pass to him rather than backwards

Maresca sometimes sets his team up in a way to exploit a back 4 only for the opposition to move to a back 5, but today I think the opposite has happened Cucurella & Enzo both high, a lone 6 that the lone Burnley striker can shadow mark, probably should’ve used a box midfield

Still though we can be proud of what we’re doing rn, the aim isn’t to win the title (yet) so performances like we had against Spurs are a huge step in the right direction Over time we will hopefully reach that next level & aim to be the best again

We made Spurs record their lowest ever XG on record & then these guys come along & break the record again Actually shows how well we’re doing rn but how there’s also another level we need to get to which should hopefully come in time

I hope the fanbase has learned their lesson from last season where Maresca is overachieving in the league & then they think we have to put on a title charge which puts on unnecessary pressure Enjoy our form right now, it’s nice to be in the top 2, but our aim remains the same

I’m surprised by how many teams sit in a mid block but don’t apply enough pressure, it gives centre backs a lot of time to look up & pick out a pass 30 seconds into this vid, Tosin with a great one to Cucurella, but Burnley either need to press or drop

Brilliant centre forward play from Guiu to set up Enzo, starts on the defenders blindside so the defender can’t see him & times his run perfectly as Neto comes inside Then the touch into space & strength to burst past his man & the awareness to find Enzo👏 https://t.co/I5exCkQH1Y

The Badiashile change was needed, Chalobah at LCB doesn’t work as he’s only comfortable on his right foot 1st half for example he could’ve used his left foot to either find Pedro BTL or passed to Cucurella’s right foot so he could use his body to protect the ball, turnover

Enzo is usually only used on the right side of midfield against back 5’s so let’s see if he moves to the left 2nd half 3-2/2-3 base imo, 6 players forward against a back 4 leaves you too vulnerable on rest defence (that & it lacks players deeper to bypass Burnley’s front 3)

No point in pressing man to man if there’s no intensity behind it, maybe Maresca is concerned about player fitness as they’ve played too many games (which is understandable) But then you should be more zonal, that Rangnick quote comes to mind

And here’s the goal in full, watch the moments of those around the 6 yard box, it makes North Macedonia worry about the empty space in the penalty being attacked But the real aim of Wales was to drag them into that space so that the 6 yard box becomes free

For their 7th goal Wales combined all of these 6 yard box is occupied, near post & penalty spot are open Wales move to the penalty spot & Isaak Davies makes a late run near post Penalty spot now occupied but 6 yard box is free, ball is flicked into Broadhead for a tap in 👍

If they had been on the 6 yard box to start with then North Macedonia would’ve covered it So it’s about attacking those spaces at the right time & potentially tricking the opposition into thinking you’re trying to score from the first place the corner lands to
