Not that I've been much of a poster on this hellsite for some time, but just to let you know that I'm moving over to Bluesky at https://t.co/rrzHCZqTCp. If you've created an account, please hook me up on the other side!

Today might be the day that the Sonos brand finally died for me. Hosting a movie night for son’s class… 30 something kids. The Sonos sound is screwed up for unknown reasons, but I’m unable to access settings because of a 500 error from a remote server. Sonos used to be so good!

Son’s iPad was stolen from our hotel room while on holiday. Not a big deal: it was insured, (although it’s a drag having to make a statement at the local police station). The thing that really has me confused: how did the thief disable Find My? The iPad was password protected.

Strava: congratulations on coming 8th all-time on 280m climb trail-running segment! Discovery Vitality Health: Nah bruh, you didn't try hard enough: I'll only award you two-thirds of your daily exercise points. Be better. True story.

Was really hoping that Apple would announce a new “charge both AirPods in the case, at the same time” feature, but I guess that was expecting too much…

Love this figure from Google's "pipes for SQL" paper. Matching syntactic and semantic order is a great heuristic for a well-designed API.

Wow, @UberEats generosity knows no bounds. I’ll be feasting on this voucher. (R1 is about USD0.05)

Congratulations to the sysadmin at @DStv Streaming who’s managed to keep their single Pentium server running throughout the Olympic Opening Ceremony, no matter how much they had to compress the video to keep it going.

For those who don't remember, in 2010, McAfee had a colossal glitch with Windows XP that took down a good part of the internet. The man who was McAfee's CTO at that time is now the CEO of Crowdstrike. The McAfee incident cost the company so much they ended up selling to Intel.

The lengthy sentences on the 'Just Stop Oil' protestors are grotesquely disproportionate. As for the judge forbidding them to explain why they were protesting, it looks. like fascism. I deplore it.

Anyone in my network got Google CloudSQL Postgres deployment experience in large scale SaaS setups? I'd love to ask some questions about your experiences with it 🙏🙇♂️

Having been in the United States, Brazil and South Africa for campaigns claiming mass electoral fraud, the Zuma disinformation narrative is by far the laziest and least convincing
