I interviewed Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy for Outlook magazine in 2009, on the eve of the general elections. In the context of his recent statements about Manmohan Singh's stewardship of the economy ("stagnated") , it's interesting to revisit his comments.

Demonetisation was a defining moment in the Govt’s war on corruption and black money. This decision struck at the very root of the parallel economy thriving on black money; and the money outside the formal system was brought within the ambit of nation’s economy

In 2009, when I asked NRN about the significance of the approaching election, he said: "This election is very important because it is being held after a ten-year period of spectacular economic growth in the country."
Then Murthy went on to praise Manmohan Singh: "MMS has brought the need for inclusive growth to the front burner. In that sense, today, there is a much greater awareness of the fact that not everybody in the country has benefited from our extraordinary economic growth."
Basically, corporates like Murthy have to walk the line between genuflecting to the current regime while keeping a door open to old ones. The fact that he's hit out openly about Cong++ indicates just how India Inc views their chances in 2024.

Many countries have an inheritance tax: Japan, France, UK, US etc. Usually it applies above a high limit - so it affects the very wealthy. Agree or disagree - it’s an idea that should be debated in a country with high levels of inequality.
Murthy repeated this point later: "For the first time, our Prime Minister – for whom I have tremendous respect – has been trying to focus the attention of the country on the need to achieve inclusive growth. That to me is a fresh thing; a watershed phenomenon in this election."

He even talked about how he could directly reach the PM: "And, then there are some corporate leaders who can pick up the phone and request to speak to the PM. That speaks a lot about the open-mindedness of our recent prime ministers. I am talking about Vajpayee and MMS."
Many will argue this is a one-sided narrative of the times we live in. But I would especially urge disbelievers to read this piece, for Dexter Filkins smartly connects most of the dots about the Modi-Shah's cultural project.

The real question on Rafale is why the Defense Ministry is leaking like a sieve. How are top secret documents finding their way into the media? Why is the Defense Minister unable to plug these leaks?

Whether you hide it or not, India's second wave of covid-19 in April and May 2021 has permanently scarred the Indian psyche—it is this generation's 1962 war, a humiliating defeat. We should not sweep it under the carpet, but learn from our mistakes so that it never happens again.
Despite this turmoil for Alt News, which is run by the founders’ nonprofit company, Pravda Media Foundation, supporters have stood by it. Donations that fund the site have remained steady, through contributions that average $12 a month per person.

The BJP has reason to celebrate. Congress will live to fight another day, & 2019 is far from done and dusted. But the messengers of hate have more oxygen, and that must worry us all. All right-thinking Indians must continue the fight against bigotry & divisive politics.

It’s ironical: the day the PM inaugurates a brand new govt complex (with some public spaces, no picnics please!) in the heart of the capital, we have a telling indicator of just how taxpayer’s money should be spent in a lower middle-income country.
