Public Affairs Advisor at BALPA, the airline pilots’ union ✈️ Aviation policy with a dash of travel, photography and learning Swedish. Views my own.

Just arrived in Stockholm. It’s jolly cold, and the temperature is unlikely to climb very much above 0C in the coming days. It’s hardly ‘ice cream weather’, but this cinnamon bun (kanelbulle) flavoured ice cream promises actual cinnamon bun filling. I’ll be honest, it’s tempting.

Great to see @LeePitcherMP raise the need for more pilots & ask ministers about government action to ensure our young people can become the next generation of aviators. Video: https://t.co/L9dXBMOCUn. BALPA General Secretary @Amy_Leversidge met him yesterday about these issues.

Easy to find moments of peace in #Plymouth’s Derriford Community Park. This is the Seaton and Lower Bircham Valley local nature reserve part of the park.

Busy week at work. With BALPA General Secretary @Amy_Leversidge for a meeting at 10 Downing Street; in Parliament for really productive meetings, including with @Tim_Roca MP (pictured), discussing pilot fatigue & fair funding of pilot training; and learning lots at #Airlines2025.

Rewarding day at #Airlines2025 with BALPA colleagues Joji Waites and General Secretary @Amy_Leversidge. Great way to stay plugged into what is a buzzing aviation policy agenda right now, from airport expansion to sustainable aviation fuel and airspace modernisation.

Great to see @JamesAsser MP’s post honouring Jack Leslie. This is the statue of him outside @Argyle’s Home Park stadium, here in #Plymouth. The city was also home to Jimmy Peters, the first Black rugby union player to represent England 🏴 https://t.co/6ldgU0d1zg
Jack Leslie was a legendary Plymouth Argyle player and should have been the first black footballer to play for England. In retirement he returned to East London but didn’t stray far from the pitch eventually working in the boot room at Upton Park. #BlackHistoryMonth

I find this thing about ChatGPT and the em-dash (—) really frustrating — because I love to use the em-dash; now, apparently, it makes things I write look like I’ve had AI write it for me.

Today, Kemi Badenoch said she'd double apprenticeship budget. Last week, Keir Starmer committed to gold standard apprenticeships. New consensus behind apprenticeships. We now need takeoff for pilots' #apprenticeship scheme. Full write-up: https://t.co/cgFq3G976c

Solid, productive time at #Lab25 with BALPA General Secretary @Amy_Leversidge, speaking with MPs & other key stakeholders about breaking down the barriers to becoming a pilot. Right now, for most, it means £100k+ of upfront bills. Pilot apprenticeships are a way to fix this.

"I want to see kids in my community not just growing up watching planes at City Airport but ultimately flying them." Great to hear this from @JamesAsser MP, whom BALPA General Secretary @Amy_Leversidge & I met at #Lab25. Work to be done on pilot apprenticeships.
I met the British Airline Pilots Association to discuss more opportunities in the industry for women and people from working class and more diverse backgrounds. I want to see kids in my community not just growing up watching planes at City Airport but ultimately flying them.
