Hear hear. Backlash on fewer targets is misguided. Bolder cutting of targets required; doing half of the wrong thing is better, but still not great. Targets often / usually distort clinical priorities. Performance measures should focus on failure demand.
We have to do things differently. I'm instructing the NHS to fix the fundamentals. It needs to deliver on patients’ priorities – shorter waiting times, being able to get a GP appointment and ambulances that arrive on time.

The original vignette was shocking in its failure to recognise the strength of primary care and general practitioners - strong primary care = better health system, better care, lower costs. I haven’t seen anyone say “Sorry”. Vignette just withdrawn. 🤯🤷♂️.
@NHSEngland should respond to this. I saw the original vignette and nearly cried. If they think that’s the future of medicine, count me out - as a doctor and as a patient. Thank you @JohnLauner 👏👏@NHSEngland you could employ people like John!.
