Much reflection still happening a week after @acelaustralia Conf. Teachers No.1 focus/priority should be to constantly advocate for their students. Leaders No.1 focus/priority should be to advocate for their teachers so they have the best chance to do just that #NC22 #ACEL

As we look to post Easter schooling don’t look to refining the past but shaping a new experience for schooling that matches the “new normal” of today’s world. #CEDP2020

So which assumptions about school no longer exactly work in a #covED world? A few: - that students need to sit still and listen for 6+ hours a day - that 100% of teachers & 100% of students are available according to a timetable - that attendance = engagement

2 days of virtual learning with stage 3 students nurturing own social connections: practising Tik Tok dances, initiating pets show and tell; toys show and tell; and even siblings show and tell. Lots of screen sharing amongst students, resulting in a class of virtual teachers.

Zoom breakout rooms are THE BEST! I have 21 girls across 3 groups right now presenting their scientific posters to each other. I'm popping in and out of each group while the listeners assess each other using Microsoft forms. Happy to help anyone to know more. #remotelearning

Can never see this enough. We spend so much time glorifying the unworthy... and then there’s Sir Nicholas Winton. How do you praise such a man ? Hero is a word too light.

Nicholas Winton helped 669 Jewish children escape the Nazis. His efforts went unrecognized for 50 years; then in 1988, while sitting as a member of a TV audience, he suddenly found himself surrounded by the kids he’d rescued, now adults. It often takes the dark to see the stars.

Many ‘solutions’ to raising the status of VET fail because of the education system structure.

“VET needs to be at the forefront of our economic and educational debates. Raising the status of VET is a crucial part of addressing youth unemployment and disengagement” - @nicholas_wyman. Thanks to @TheEducatorAU for the latest article:

I have been impressed by some of the consultations around the country in preparation for the 2020 Plenary Council of the Catholic Church in Australia. But I think we still have some work to do in designing an appropriate structure. See

What we need is a listening and inclusive Church - a plenary council at which the clergy and the laity have a proper place at the table, at which the voices of the 'rusted-on' and the 'cheesed-off'...

In countries eg Germany, technical & trade occupations are held in higher esteem. There, it’s common to find young people who have university entrance but prefer to engage in apprenticeships https://t.co/3rm2Ola0pH @SkillsAus @OECDEduSkills @SkillsOne @nicholas_wyman @aennswact

Many young Australians and their parents don’t consider VET as a potential post-school pathway, even if it might be more suitable for them than university.

There is a stark difference in higher education and VET expenditure. Expenditure on #voced hit its lowest point in a decade while #highered increased. We need a more consistent approach to distributing resources across tertiary education https://t.co/SPUCvUj0fJ #AussieED

This is something that we need to impress upon our children so much. It is counter to the cultural norm of wanting more.

We in the developed world are more prosperous than any civilization in history, but we’re still vaguely dissatisfied. When asked how much income they'd need to “live well,” Americans at every income level answer, “Twice as much.” Make Today Matter: https://t.co/16i1FONXaq
