Prevailing ontological model is materialism. Many say it's dogmatic & should adapt as understanding of consciousness grows. Few state the same of Idealism. It's possible consciousness is fundamental, and yet not at all matching how we prefer to envision it.

Two problems I struggled to solve, one in Unity, other in VUE.js. Enlisted forums, endless googling, nothing resolved issues - ppl couldn’t even grasp the issues. Kept on back burner for months. Thought to try a Hail Mary: ChatGPT. Both solved within 4 questions. Took 10 mins.

Other than for a few narrow domains of research it seems a bad time to assume consciousness as fundamental rather than emergent. Assuming the former prevents any safeguard to potential of conscious AI. Even those who think it’s possible in principle aren’t adequately preparing.
