I was at D.C.’s most raucous weekend gathering. It wasn’t the military parade — it was the Vans Warped Tour.

This is true every year — campaigns are our last great meritocracy and the best way to carve out a career in politics is to just start showing up and working hard — but *especially* this year.
If you’re a young political person, get on a campaign for 2026 immediately. Any spot doing any job—go for it now.

Ma'am, this is a Wendy's.
In Kathy Hochul’s hometown in Hamburg, NY, Republicans cleaned house. The @ErieCountyGOP declared victory in the Town Supervisor race AND two Hamburg Town Board seats. This is the Worst Governor in America @KathyHochul's HOMETOWN. Hochul's home political base. They know Hochul

Abigail Spanberger's big win was inevitable. After all, the Virginia state flag *does* depict a woman dressed in blue mean-mugging after wiping out a dude in a vest from the red team...

Update: this has happened. Dems on track to win at least 64 (!) VA House of Delegates seats, w/ two races still outstanding. Massive Dem night.
If Dems win 63+ HoD seats, it would be consistent w/ a lot of strong overperformances we've seen for Dems in downballot races so far in '25 and indicate that Dems should be considered favorites for House control in '26.

If Dems perform in 2026 like they did tonight, it's bad news for Utah Republicans who just drew two light-red congressional seats...
Tonight is such a blowout so far that I wonder if it gives some Rs pause about redistricting in states that are still pondering it. They already needed to "stress-test" the districts (and they did in TX-NC-MO, I think, even considering tonight), but still.

Hard to argue that either NJ/VA Democratic centrists OR Mamdani underperformed Tuesday. Which kind of makes the point that there's no one size fits all answer for Ds (even as Rs demonstrated the dangers of all squeezing into the same box-in this case, genuflecting to Trump.)

It turns out that firing half of Northern Virginia for no reason might not be super popular in Northern Virginia.

The factional grifters will hate this, but the Mamdani-Spanberger-Sherrill axis actually suggests the outlines of a broad, emerging Dem coalition organized around both anti-Trump *and* affordability politics, not a party bitterly divided against itself.
These big wins will embolden Dems to take on Trump's lawbreaking and show there's a price for GOP enabling of him. Folks hate to hear this, but normal patterns are alive and well: Liberalism isn't dead, Rs likely to lose 2026, and Trump is very unpopular, not a magical exception.

.@StatesProjectUS, which poured $7 million into the VA races, takes a victory lap "By not only protecting but expanding the pro-democracy House majority, we’ve once again proven that The States Project has cracked the code for how to win at the state legislative level"
Looks like wipe out for Virginia House of Delegates Republicans Dems on track to get at least 60 seats, if not more GOP had 66 seats in 2017 before the elections then Now will be below 40 in second Trump era Follow @StateNavigate for all the calls

Not to be overlooked but Democrats on track to pick up about a dozen seats in the Virginia House of Delegates tonight. Largest Democratic majority since 1989.

Turns out, sometimes the Democratic establishment is good, actually.
The Democratic establishment loves to say the party needs to move to the center, as if they're not already there. In New Jersey and Virginia, deep blue states, they managed to nominate two national-security Dems who aggressively stand for nothing beyond poll-tested platitudes. So
