Every Virginia Democratic Governor in modern era won as moderate. It hasn’t broke out of light blue shade. All that is to say Virginia is different than NYC. So this more a function of politicians responding to electorate. Dems need flexibility in who they run depending on race.

Legal issues getting intertwined with politics is always messy. Politics is about pushing a certain message. But in a legal context, the exact facts are critical. That’s why I took the time to examine everything and provide my assessment.

I took the time to review all the back and forth. RTD could have done better job framing the issue. But the 2020 law really played no role here. It’s really a distraction from the larger issue. 1 person committed a horrible crime. Doesn’t really have a link to 2020 law.

IMO this is more of a technical correction. Department of Corrections says this inmate was released 28 days early due to the 2020 sentencing reform. But the crime he committed occurred months after he would have been released anyways. The 2020 law had nothing to do with it.

Also notable Spanberger with more colorful language . When she gets passionate, certainly can bring the heat. Interesting message of using GOP redistricting push to fire up Dems for midterms . Essentially Dems should work to win seats on table so GOP gambit doesn’t work.

Spanberger giving more thoughts on redistricting. At least for Virginia, acknowledges not really possible to change maps in 2026 bc of State Constitution. But understands there are winnable seats. VA-2 is always a battleground . And VA-1 similar to old VA-7 she flipped in 2018.
