Happy 100th birthday to Watford and Croxley stations, on the Metropolitan line! TfL says: "Customers can drop-by Watford Underground station between 10:30 – 15:00 to take part in activities, including a chance to create a Metro-land postcard with the Museum of Watford".

Lovely to see some decay fungi appearing on dead trees, breaking down the tough components of wood - all part of the rich ecosystem🌳 Friendly reminder: don't pick fungi you see in the woods, they're vital to the health of the trees, so best leave them to do their job! 🍄

The Silwood acorn data for 2025 are gathered (below). As expected, it was a bumper crop, but nowhere near the largest we've seen (that was in 2020). In the 46 years of the study, there have been 8 years with bigger acorn crops than 2025.

This is the time of year when you come across intriguingly-shaped fruits and think “I ought to know what that is”. This thread might help you out.

If you're cycling in woodland this summer, cleaning your bike between visits is important to reduce the risk of tree diseases being moved from place to place on your wheels. #TreeHealth #KeepItClean

This is an historic photo. Congratulations to William Brame (who took the photo) for realising this was a different white butterfly. Now confirmed by @chrisvanswaay as a Southern Small White - the first seen in England. As it is a female let's hope it has been laying eggs.
