'Could lead to' is the key phrase. Platforms (e.g. Twitter, Facebook) are great for getting large amounts of information into standardised, interoperable formats, and spreading info.
Congrats to Dr. E Millar @ensciman who recently completed the program here @TMUgraduate His dissertation addressed why aquatic citizen science's move to platforms could lead to mistrust and industry control.
