New speed course from @BorrowmanScott is quite good. Hit an air swing PR in first session, coming off a detrained period.

If you have a non-GM vehicle, #Costco membership, and a current lease, lease the Equinox EV for $137/month! Or $94/month if you work for a qualifying employer. Pre-Negotiated Deal:

Some people don't like these cars, or the people who like these cars, and that is completely fine. But before buying your next car, it is worth considering what premium you are willing to pay. It can easily be tens of thousands of dollars. 7/7.

These cars are often priced very inefficiently, so there are often further savings on free Tesla FSD (worth about $5k on secondary market), software upgrades, or years a refresh was made. 6/7.

if you get a performance vehicle, you are going to chew through tires, but getting 100 MPG equivalent on a car that doesn't need brake jobs, oil changes, or the typical parts that break on old ICE cars means the value proposition gets very good, even on luxury models. 5/7.

3) Cost of ownership at higher mileage is much, much lower. There are fewer things to break and battery reliability is now much higher than 10 years ago. The minor issues that start adding up at 100k miles on an ICE car do not on an EV, because the parts aren't present. 4/7.

2) EVs are evolving rapidly compared to ICE cars. Charging speed, range, etc. has advanced quickly. A car bought 5 years ago may run perfectly well, but the 2025 model is nicer and has about the same MSRP. This is less true for a gas Mercedes, Toyota, etc. 3/7.

particular for EVs is dramatic and not related to a car's cost of ownership. Three reasons. 1) Tax incentives for new vehicles immediately drop the value of any used vehicle. Nobody will pay $45k for a used Tesla if the new one is $50k - $7,500 2/7.

Many used EVs are massively underpriced and the value can be absurd. For different buyers, a newer or much higher mileage Tesla can offer very low ownership cost without the headaches of an older ICE vehicle.

At PHL and a guy from LA is very confidently arguing that because he bought a row of seats the bin above is his. He arrived just before departure and doesn’t think the bins can be full.

My favorite thing about this is it’s better than most of the futuristic mega-displays depicted in Sci Fi. Only even imaginable recently.

A house, a car, and multiple kids in college was not a middle class family in the 50s, it was a top-quintile family, which we know because only about 20% of Americans aged 25-30 had a college degree in the 70’s. Now it’s roughly the median family.

but they do not seem to be allowed to take over public places in the way I see in SF. Again, my experience is limited, but the original criticism seemed fair, and not an endorsement of banishing the poor from cities.
