I wouldn't be surprised if there is a bilingual version of Alpha School someday in the future. The entrepreneur in me wants to be the one to build it lol.

Everything I read about Alpha School makes me feel like it's how education should be. Personalized learning, passion projects, foundational mastery. The only thing I would want to add to it is second language immersion.

A school that refuses to fail students has already failed them; it just prefers to let real life deliver the F instead of the report card.

The Mississippi Miracle is actually real, no matter how you cut the data. This is a great piece by Kelsey Piper, and I strongly encourage pundits to read it instead of latching onto shoddy papers in an attempt to gleefully dunk on red states.

One thing I am trying to grabble with… if kindergarten and first grade are taught catering to the bottom / middle, is there any point to teaching my kid to be advanced at all and having her just be bored at school?

It is depressing that so many people just blanket oppose markets out of ideology even when creating a market mechanism for food banks lead to feeding way more people at a way lower cost. Prices are a powerful tool for allocating resources!
Great story. There was another really good piece on this 2 months ago to check out too https://t.co/t3bLJzJ1MS

Lowering standards for all isn’t a solution to inequality. It’s wishful thinking that shortchanges our brightest kids and deepens the real divides.

There's a half of the Icarus myth no one tells. Daedalus gave his son Icarus two warnings: 1. Don't fly too close to the sun; the wax will melt. 2. Don't fly too close to the sea; the sea spray will weigh down the feathers. Everyone remembers the first. Hubris. Overreach. We

If public schools can’t figure this out, students of parents who care will just go to private schools. It feels so inefficient and bad for society
Education is such a mess, because the actual practitioners of education don’t understand that basically the entire point of education is to widen gaps. That’s literally what education is. You take a mixed group of people who can only get so far on their own and then you give them

Our schools think their job is to equalize, not to educate. But some kindergarteners have been reading for years. Some can't read at all. They should not be learning the same material. They should not be finishing the school year at the same place.

It is baffling that there is no state legislative effort to force UCs to start using SAT/ACT again. This is a disaster. @Scott_Wiener @MattHaneySF @Stefani4CA
the ucsd story was way worse than what i gleaned from the tweets, a whole public education pathway appears to have broken down because it's optimized around not having the appearance of inequity instead of teaching people things

Love watching the best in the world perform. Ohtani, Steph Curry… still feeling the joy/awe/thrill of sports now that I felt as a boy watching Michael Jordan

Such a silicon valley thing to have a hackathon for a local music festival:

I wonder how the offshoring engineering work to contractors abroad business is going? At this point, given how much definition I generally have had to give to contractors in the past, it feels easier and more effective to just give the tasks to AI agents now

Whenever I drink sparkling water or eat donuts, I get headaches. Yet, I keep testing to see if it’s the case. Currently have a headache now

The one positive of having a game 7 is it gives Warriors another iteration at trying to solve a two big lineup… the kind of team they will face next round

Haven't made any posts yet on blue sky, but I've decided to make the switch. X at this point has somewhat gotten too noisy and it feels inefficient for my time. I get too many posts in my feed that I don't care for. You can follow me here:

Still don't get it. I'm so confused. Why would any Mavs owner sign off on a Luka trade. Would it not hurt the valuation of the franchise?
