Writers, I can’t possibly recommend @GlenstalAbbey enough. I hope to write a proper post about my experience writing in this space. I ended up here thanks to recommendation by a friend because residency slots at Tyrone Guthrie were full this summer.

You cannot understand how a piece of writing works—structurally, spatially, temporally, linguistically—by reading on your phone (or on a laptop). You can’t see patterns, how one sentence or section relates to another. It’s a disaster for students to learn this way.

what I really appreciate about this account is facts and then “takes”….
🦔 Court filings unsealed last week reveal Anthropic ran a secret project called "Project Panama" to "destructively scan all the books in the world." An internal document stated: "We don't want it to be known that we are working on this." The company spent tens of millions buying

Seeing this happening in real time is quite something…
You do all realize that increasingly intelligent technology—like LLMs and other AI—will actually make being deeply knowledgeable, smart, hard-working, curious, and intellectually, humble MORE important, right? But not in the way you can fake with a fancy degree you phoned in. It

Well, you will find me with Montag & Granger et al. at the end of Fahrenheit 451 ...
People sound like chatbots not just because they’re using chatbots, but also because they’re subconsciously adopting the linguistic mannerisms of chatbots. We're now witnessing humans being trained on LLMs, becoming ever more average & predictable. The autocompletion of the soul.

I am really hopeful this will create a revival for independent films à la @JustineBateman -- because this is ridiculous. Netflix also at times has to create "ending explained" due to no critical thinking & imagination.
Matt Damon says Netflix wants movies to restate "the plot three or four times in the dialogue" to account for viewers being on their phones: “The standard way to make an action movie that we learned was, you usually have three set pieces. One in the first act, one in the
