I never would have read *Careless People*, Sarah Wynn-Williams's tell-all memoir about her years running global policy for Facebook, but then Meta's lawyer tried to get the book suppressed and secured an injunction to prevent her from promoting it: https://t.co/gCFtdZBLcB 1/

If the tariffs could produce THESE kinds of disruptive monopoly-busting results… then my personal carrot/stick opinion of them just got more carrot-weighted
It's true that capitalists by and large hate capitalism - given their druthers, entrepreneurs would like to attain a perch from which they get to set prices and wages and need not fear competitors. 1/

Those governments are supposed to work for *us*, and yet they passed laws - like DMCA 1201 - that felonize reverse-engineering, modding and tinkering. These laws create an enshittogenic environment, which produces enshittification: https://t.co/qwR1OnazYW 30/

We *could* disrupt Amazon in lots of ways. We could scrape all of Amazon's "ASIN" identifiers and make browser plugins that let local sellers advertise when they have stock of the things you're about to buy on Amazon: https://t.co/MSEZB8I6wN 13/

A counter argument to the one sided hysteria over the proposed changes to inheritance tax relief on inherited agricultural land. Farmers have hoarded land for too long. Inheritance tax will bring new life to rural Britains

British cheeses miss out at the World Cheese Awards in Portugal - not because they weren’t worthy of prizes, but because they got stuck in customs. That. Is. A. Disgrace.

The state of British journalism!!
THREAD | Free Speech, Culture Wars and Dodgy Journalism 🔴 "WHERE IS YOUR SON?", barked a lady as she banged on my parents' door yesterday in London. She identified herself as a journalist, and was told I wasn't at home. Still, she hung around. Why...? 🤔 It's complicated.

🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄 If ONLY the self righteous media currently whining and complaining about Reeves’ Budget had delved into the #brexit promises of @borisjohnson If only they had questioned the implications for the NHS, businesses, farming, working people. But they didn’t. Did they?

In the last interview of his life (1996), astronomer Carl Sagan warned of the dangers that come when citizens cannot ask skeptical scientific questions of those in authority. Watch and ask: was he right?

I will tolerate recurrent laryngeal nerve slander no longer! It's actually the result of several elegant solutions to difficult problems in embryology, and the length is a non-issue. A 🧵 1/13
My meager education in biology and evolution gave me the mistaken impression that evolution optimized everything. But it didn't. One example is the recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN). It goes from behind your ear, loops down below your aorta, and then back up to the voice-box 1/2

It really is hard to get across quite how bad this is. We’re on track for 3C of warming, which could easily result in catastrophic cascading risks to human civilisation. And emissions are still rising.
businessgreen.com
UN report stresses that capping warming at 1.5C remains affordable and technically possible, but only with immediate and unprecedented action from governments

Spread this with everyone you can; govt past and present is being very furtive about SEZ’s and we all need to wise up:
Someone explain to me why my research into SEZs is getting hardly any traction anymore. Is it because it was OK to expose the Tories implementation of them, but when I found out that Labour were continuing this Tory policy, no one wants to know the truth all of a sudden? Help me

@_i0n Deregulated SEZs allow corporations to 'self-regulate' this means they can make up their own rules inside the zones separate from the host country. Deregulation inside free zones includes - Restrictions on workers' rights, below minimum wages, and appalling working conditions.
