Space memes, fusion schemes, and x-fundie dreams Recurrent laryngeal nerve's #1 defender

I will tolerate recurrent laryngeal nerve slander no longer! It's actually the result of several elegant solutions to difficult problems in embryology, and the length is a non-issue. A 🧵 1/13.
My meager education in biology and evolution gave me the mistaken impression that evolution optimized everything. But it didn't. One example is the recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN). It goes from behind your ear, loops down below your aorta, and then back up to the voice-box. 1/2

Reminder that two launches a year is not a sustained rate, but requires holding on to hardware and rebuilding ML-1. As it stands, SLS and Orion cannot sustain a permanent human presence at or near the moon, as the Orion capsule has a max duration while docked of 6 months.
@ThePrimalDino Can't have a permanent lunar presence and Mars exploration with two launches a year, and to my knowledge, there aren't many ways to push past that. Even if every planned Artemis mission is fulfilled, that's only a couple steps in for a much larger goal.

Here's your reminder that for brief stint in designing the Shuttle the leading first stage booster design was a mini-Sea Dragon booster that literally just Shuttlecocked into the ocean for recovery
The top 5 most overrated rockets ever (no particular order). 1. Sea Dragon (not as large as you think, medium sized for rocket designs at the time, and a horrible design that isn’t practical at all). 2. Energia (unreliable, too many boosters, and would’ve never seen reuse unlike.

It's hard to fathom sometimes, but the past couple centuries have seen humanity achieve feats that would have been miraculous to our ancestors. And the extent to which we've defeated famine is one of them
at its peak the roman empire had a population of 75 million with a fifth to a quarter living in cities. this makes it almost as grand as the democratic republic of the congo, with its 106 million people, 30% of whom are in cities.

People make content to get picked by millenial parents for their children to watch because of their fond memories of the original.
There is be a thesis to be written on the autocannibalism of pop culture. The evolution of pop culture from “new things based on old things” (“Star Wars”) to “new takes on old things” (Tim Burton’s “Batman”) to “new versions of old things that look just like the old things.”.
