Hot off the press! 🔥 Our new BMJ piece shows how the focus on “healthy” UPFs—promoted by industry and nutrient-centric academics—inflates benefits, legitimizes industry narratives, and distracts from the real priority: cutting overall UPF consumption. https://t.co/aATV5LnTZJ

Yes, we're still trying to understand the novel harms conferred by some UPF. Yes, we need that research. But we can't afford to wait before we act. It'll take decades to unravel it all, and in the meantime the UPF industry will continue to steamroller the public's health.

The new Lancet series on UPF is just great. Especially in its articulation of the core Nova hypothesis, which critics often seem to misunderstand. This is what they're missing... 🧵 https://t.co/3lF3Ks9NMW

From this great report: Sustainability practices, like the “Cocoa for Generations” plan outlined by Mars, or Pepsico’s “Pep+” initiatives are Band-Aids on broken bones. Large food corporations need to be phased out to make global food systems sustainable. https://t.co/OZJkTgpXZA

UPFs are the ultimate expression of fossil-fueled food systems—born from commodity crops grown with fossil-fueled agrochemicals, harvested with fossil-fueled machinery, shaped by energy-intensive processing, wrapped in plastic, and shipped around the world. https://t.co/kTj6vS0Pe3

Our food system uses 40% of petrochemicals and 15% of fossil fuels – yet it's left out of the climate conversation. Here's the path to fossil-free food.
