Excited for 1st paper from our lab - led by the amazing @RyanKrue in collab. with @BrennerGroup1. How do we design intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs) that lack a stable structure and are continuously shapeshifting for different target functions? .

Coarse-grained molecular simulations have emerged as good models of the sequence-ensemble map (Mpipi, Calvados, and more). So - we bridge ML & stat. physics to directly invert simulations to design IDP sequences with tailored ensemble functions incl. sensors, binders, and loops!

In recent years, we have major advances for designing folded proteins (ref Nobel 2024 + Baker lab, AlphaFold, ColabFold etc.) that rely on accurate ways to map (and invert) sequence to a static structure. However, these don't apply to IDPs that occupy a huge structural ensemble.

A thing every interdisciplinary scientist hears: "how is this X?" (X=physics, math, chemistry. ). Here is Hopfield's (thoughtful) perspective from his fabulous essay "Now What".

An amazing and well-deserved recognition. Highlighting Hopfield's introspective meditations on the scientific path - an essay that I find deeply motivating and inspiring.
