I've learned there's a BlueSky account using the handle @seaspinner. That is NOT me - I have no idea who they are - and to avoid confusion I do want people here, especially my followers, to know that isn't my account. I'll let you know if/when I get an account there.

The saddest part is that when AI fails for commercial applications, these corporations still have censorship, thought policing, mass surveillance and Ministry of Truth propaganda to fall back on. And just judging how the products work, that was the main goal to begin with anyway.

“In writing songs, I have found something that overwhelmingly makes me a happier person, more able to cope with the world.” AI CEO’s & their VC backers want to remove that path of happiness & replace it with disenchanted production of derivative content paste. Stealing our joy.

“In his book How to Write One Song, Jeff Tweedy explained that the act of songwriting is all about ‘the joy of disappearing long enough to find something you didn’t know you had inside you.’” AI, on the other hand, has nothing inside. Nothing to find. Just traces of the past.

america is betting its entire economy on an overhyped, unreliable slop-generating technology that is unproven and may take many years to pay off, if it ever does. don’t be surprised if that turns out badly.

It’s happening. The takedown of Jimmy Kimmel is likely the start of a campaign to use the murder of Charlie Kirk as a pretext to use the power of the White House to wipe out Trump’s critics and his political opponents. But we aren’t powerless. We can mobilize and organize. Now.

🚨🚨FULL SPEECH Governor Newsom delivers a powerful and urgent address to the people of California and the nation in direct response to President Trump’s illegal militarization of Los Angeles and his broader assault on our democracy. A must watch till the end.

We don’t easily come back from this. The guardrails of decency, always too thin as it was, are gone. And many of our neighbors will not stand up for you or me or others. Troops booing the media at the goading of the president. We don’t come back easily from this.

A key difference between generative AI and human creativity is that AI doesn’t experience what it’s creating as it creates it. When we create, we can optimize for what we react positively to. What sounds nice, looks good, reads well - to us. In other words, what we like. But AI

AI boosters justify training on other people’s work by calling it ‘open culture’. But open culture is people *voluntarily* contributing to the commons. It involves consent. Training AI on other people’s work isn’t open culture. It’s theft.

The United States just deported someone “by accident” and refuses, even under Supreme Court order, to retrieve the person; Musk just accused a law-abiding US citizen of being a criminal based on zero evidence; the EU is, for the first time, telling employees to use burner phones

Elon Musk & Jack Dorsey (former twitter founder now blue sky) just declared war on artists, writers & musicians. The two big tech CEOs are saying that all IP law should be “deleted” - that means Intellectual Property & copyright. The decimation of the arts to feed AI.

The full report by the Tony Blair Institute is out, in which they detail how copyright should be "rebooted" in the AI age. It is - and I don't say this lightly - terrible. It reads like a cross between a big tech lobbying document and a funding proposal for a new academic
