Here's the big idea behind @diabrowser:. You know how TikTok gets better with every swipe? Dia gets more personalized with every tab you open. This is 100x more context than ChatGPT, automatically. And we believe it changes what's possible with AI. But we need your help.

Like every bone in my body wants to dismiss this stuff as insider hype or disconnect from reality or hallucinations or pre-training slowing or cultural adoption roadblocks or whatever… doesn’t matter. Just like COVID didn’t care what you thought AI doesn’t either. It’s happening.

I realize that sounds hallow in how bland it is… but I can’t quite verbalize it any other way. It’s an emotional reaction. A sensation I’ve been feeling closest to the beginning of COVID. It’s clear the world’s about to turn upside down but nobody knows quite what to say or do.

Such a wild time to be making software. Every time I have a second to catch my breath I’m just in awe of this moment. The computing paradigms we grew up with are gonna start melting away… very quickly. I keep reminding myself to be bolder. We can finally rewrite the rules!.

I can’t decide if this is a “bicycle for your mind” in the truest form, or a dystopian Black Mirror episode, or both. Whatever it is @cpaik’s /graham skill in Dia was so emotionally resonant with our team that we made a video about it. You be the judge, try it yourself….

I’ve been evaluating people using my @diabrowser /skill. It’s called /graham and It’s scary good. Watch me test it on a few victims live (incl. @nikitabier )

We actually built this 7 months ago (see 4:23 min mark of this video): We were one of the first 5 testers of both OpenAI & Anthropic’s CUA models. It didn’t seem like the tech was there at the time, but now may be a good moment to integrate it finally?.

“Cursor Friends” . Use Dia to send AI assistants off on assignments. Each gets their own cursor and browser tab, just like you. Browsing side-by-side feels super natural. Design is way off, but we built it. Should we finish & ship? Each cursor must feel like a Pixar character!

And here's that shopping dupes Skills (app) that I made in Dia, without code, without an engineer:

Dia Skills (and today's Skills Gallery launch) barely scratch the surface. But you can feel the humanity & individuality in the Skills people are already making. This is the “Mac” future that we prefer to the Agentic Computer Use (or “PC”) worldview:.

These LLM-generated apps will be customized, remixed, shared, sold. Created for and executed in @diabrowser – the place with all your context, memories, and web apps. Rich GUIs too: Buttons! Colors! Fonts!

Today, I can make that app myself in Dia, tailored exactly to my preferences. My taste. My opinions. My personal context and history. This is the “Mac” future of AI that we believe in: *personal* software, built for niches, built for specific workflows, built for you.

So why now? LLMs are marketing expanding in terms of who can be an app developer, just like Instagram expanded who can be a photographer. I can’t code. 3 years ago, if I wanted a shopping app that finds dupes for me, I had to just hope someone built a generic version.

The idea of the browser as the next major app platform (like iOS was to mobile apps) is one of @browsercompany’s oldest ideas. We published our Internet Computer vision in 2021 – obviously I didn’t know it would be something called “Dia” then 😅.

Our belief is that the “AI browser” is not just the future of browsers. It’s not even just the future of *browsing* (clicking buttons, filling forms, opening tabs). We view AI browsers as the foundation for the next big application/developer platform. AI apps we call Skills:

Both are valid. Both are valuable. Both will make a lot of money. The truth is nobody has any idea what will be most compelling. (We’re still stuck in the Command Line era of AI). But @diabrowser is aspiring to be a Mac, and today’s release is small but gestures this way….

The other camp believes the most valuable work on computers is subjective — taste, ideas, opinions, edits, and the like — and revolves around the liberal arts. They believe AI is most liberating as “a bicycle for your mind” not extension of your hands. These are the Macs
