Once you know your motion, hire for your stage. You need to hire start-up people. Period. People that embrace uncertainty and rapid change. The early team must be able to execute your planned motion while remaining nimble enough to adapt if you pivot to another GTM motion.

Nail down your ICP. GTM strategy should be based off of the customers you're going after. Again, if you don't know this you probably aren't ready to start assembling a GTM team.

My advice to founders: Commit to a go-to-market motion and hire your team based on that strategy. Maybe you don't know your motion yet – if so, keep your GTM team small -- probably just the founders. It's hard to hire right when the strategy is unclear.

I made plenty of mistakes when figuring out go-to-market strategy at the seed stage. I talk to a lot of seed stage founders, and the #1 mistake I see in GTM (that I made as well) is not having a clear GTM strategy before hiring.
