This man opened everyone’s eyes to how we can reshape our cities, and I and many generations of people are forever in debt for his vision for a brighter and cleaner future. May he rest in eternal peace.
I'm deeply saddened to share that Donald Shoup passed away last night. He was the ideal academic—curious, methodical, and concerned with turning ideas into real-world change. TAing his parking course has one of the greatest honors of my life. Rest in peace, Shoup Dogg.

Good article discussing why distraction is worse in US than Europe (as part of explaining why US traffic deaths are 2x+ rates in Europe) It's too bad the 2010 Blueprint for Ending Distracted Driving was abandoned
American drivers are now even more distracted by their phones. Pedestrian deaths are soaring.

In sum: don't let Safe Systems become a buzzword. Hold DOTs accountable for building deadly roads while launching lame PSAs that ask drivers not to follow the design cues they're actively setting. We *can* have a real Vision Zero approach. But we certainly don't have one now.
