Excited to share a big update โ€” Iโ€™ve started a new company! ๐Ÿš€ Itโ€™s been an incredible 4 years at @retool โ€” 7 new products from Workflows to Retool AI, 100s of Retools, and 1,000,000s of apps. Thank you to @dvdhsu for taking the chance on acquiring our startup all those years

Tried Waymo last night and someone walked up to the car at a red light on Van Ness and started smashing the window with a rock. Glass everywhere.

I keep hearing how hosting Next.js yourself as a nodejs application is a huge pain, and I have no idea where this is coming from. What's difficult? Containerizing it? Creating a deploy pipeline? If you said yes to either, then you likely have trouble hosting *any* app yourself.

I get asked about this a lot (especially since the launch of Epic Web), so I've written it down. Here's why I won't use Next.js: https://t.co/crVN7hOszL

Finally, a zero-sum mindset shouldn't apply to emerging markets in climate. The pie will not be big enough for anyone if we don't all try to fix it. Wasting time and energy fighting over a shrinking slice is pointless.

This isn't a hiring thread (I'm getting a haircut and started writing), just a collection of thoughts. There are so many awesome companies working in this space (and happy to intro to other founders I've met).

As we transition away from fossil fuels, an entire world of complexity opens up. Change management is fundamentally hard, and we need to manage change at every level over the next decade. We need people, and we need technology.

One of our tenets is to be ruthlessly pragmatic: everyone has a role to play in mitigation, not everyone has the means to do so, and not everyone will be affected equally.

There's been nothing more soul-fulfilling than spending my waking hours working with @dzhxo to think of how we might be able to move the needle together. And other founders working in this space continuously inspire me to do better and dream bigger.

It's tragic, but I came away with one big takeaway: that individuals created this problem, and individuals must help mitigate it's impact. ~10 people could have solved this problem 50 years ago, but they chose not to.

One of the best reads in my life was this article from NYT in 2018. As a teenager, grappling with climate change threw me into depression. This article singlehandedly changed my life trajectory and worldview. https://t.co/x1ggICiSVX

We knew everything we needed to know, and nothing stood in our way. Nothing, that is, except ourselves. A tragedy in two acts.

Operational excellence is often quiet. Retool excels operationally, and in recent weeks (SVB), I am truly thankful that we never have to worry about the fundamentals.

Start building new products uncomfortably early. At Retool, we launched DB, Mobile, and Workflows all in Q4. Bringing product #2 to market is very different than finding PMF for the first time. Developing that muscle early helps every part of your organization mature.
