China is rapidly becoming the world's first hegemonic electro-state, while the USA, under Republican leadership, doubles down on its role as a petro-state. It's a bit like building a navy full of the best sailing ships one can build at the dawn of the age of steam. Might work for.

💯 The magic is the batteries. Solar and wind are now just the cheapest fuel for batteries.

Solar market cannibalization is not a real problem. All markets trend towards an equilibrium where participants earn a normal rate of return. Solar being zero marginal cost doesn’t change anything. If gas were free, would you then be worried about “gas turbine market.

Key insight in new @akleidon paper: ". life appears to evolve to minimise frictional losses and pushes the imposed transport constraints to higher levels. ". IOW life lives at today's limits, but in so doing lives in a way to raise those limits by changing the environment.

New paper: The Second Law of #Thermodynamics, #Life and #Earth‘s Planetary Machinery Revisited. #Entropy and the second law of thermodynamics must apply to life and the Earth system as well, but how, and what can we learn from it? Check out our blog

My dad came a decade later - as a USAF officer manning the radar posts of the Atlantic frontier during the Cold War. I have absolutely no doubt he would have spotted the threat when it first hit the edge of his screen. and would, as a proud vet, scramble his vote against Trump.

I think Elon's minions went a little overboard with the newest "boost Elon" algorithm. Just checked my X feed and 22 contiguous Elon tweets in a row! All are in the last day, too. Certainly there must a rocket to launch or a car to charge or something??? 😉

The human brain really sucks at grasping the early phases of "S" curves which are for all practical purposes exponentials. But they dominate the world around us anyway. It's the "X" that matters.

Solar power increased 10X in the last 10 years. It is on pace to increase ~10X within another 10 years. The will be the equivalent of multiplying the entire world’s fleet of nuclear reactors by 8x in less than the time it takes to build . one nuclear reactor.

Some form of synthetic savanna is the future of energy IMO. Hybrid systems that optimize capture of solar energy for use as either electrons or food/fiber on the same acre in various forms is a killer app.

Keeping with the analogy of the moment, here's the version of the famed Ted Lasso banner that captures the vision I hope for - i.e. putting a torn America back together again. @KamalaHarris @Tim_Walz

Growing up, I learned to be generous toward my neighbors, compromise without compromising my values, and to work for the common good. @KamalaHarris and I both believe in that common good – in that fundamental promise of America. We’re ready to fight for it. And like she says:

Only 15 years from a 100% monopoly to near 0 for gasoline-only cars. Another beautiful example of an "S" curve where nothing big seems to be happening, and then it happens all at once, but it was really happening all along. Simply requires changing the course then staying on it.

Now fully read. Although cautious to over-generalize conclusions from a single locale, in addition to appreciating the relative soil carbon benefits of grassland to common cropping systems, can we also finally put a bullet in the head of any study based on 0-30cm soil sampling?.
