That's not what those statements mean. Helping someone who feels down is obviously okay, but only to a certain extent because 1) you aren't a licensed psychologist so you can't help them if they have deep seeded issues and 2) some times people project their insecurities onto you.

I was paying out of pocket, struggling with my mental health, changed my major twice, and failed most of my classes.
Now, at 22, I have a 4.00 Term GPA.
