Arable farmers/mixed farmers growing herbal leys/cover crops or grass leys as a break and grazing cattle as part of their rotation. Anyone willing for a chat on systems, costings, cash crop yield reductions etc… appreciated greatly for part of my @NuffieldFarming study. 🙏

This is quite simply one of the most hypocritical things I have heard. @DaleVince chooses to invest in AD power generation growing grass and other crops to produce power which is amongst the most inefficient land use. Super ironically, his system would be way more efficient by

Great to speak at the #RestoreNatureNow Rally in London yesterday. I spoke about the cow in the room... The blind spot of many who care about climate, nature, and the environment: our diet. Nature is in decline not just because us concreting the country, the climate crisis, or

We should also consider the other benefits of livestock, such as the positive impact they can have on maintaining healthy soils, which is of course also crucial for producing plant-based foods. We welcome the opportunity to get you on farm and discuss all of the above points. 6/6

I was delighted to meet supermarket leaders and their trade body @_thebrc this week. We discussed their vital role in feeding the nation.   We are committed to working with them to #BackBritishFarmers and help shoppers be assured of high-quality food at a fair price. 🚜

BCS and mobility this afternoon within @ArlaDairyUK quarterly monitoring programme. Great opportunity to review performance vs diets alongside cow health whilst monitoring KPIs. Being a #farmvet is about more than fertility visits, sick cows and TB but do vets have enough time?

So begins another year: autumn calvers breeding season nearly under way: 380 cows pre-service checked, BCS and reviewed for culls: bad start with 60 treated and AI due from Monday. Forages not performing as expected but cows holding BCS well overall #farmvet #earlystart

One of those days: planned out until call to a farmer jammed calving: 17mth beef heifer caught by a rig bull last January. Embryotomy is one of those satisfying but disappointing jobs for any #farmvet Back tomorrow to check remainder of group: at least another 4 pregnant 🤷🏻‍♂️

View from office; body condition and mobility scoring with as farms roll into winter routine. This year’s bulling heifers housed today look on as the herd walks back to feed and cubicles. Simple system 3 way cross @VikingGenUK 14 days to start AI 😳

Very excited: only 21days after being involved in a horrendous RTA (all those involved now on the mend ❤️‍🩹) and seeing my Defender written off, new @LandRover_UK Discovery commercial is ready to be picked up. PS this was an order placed in June for my vet practice 🤷🏻‍♂️

Intrigued though I am to see what the plant-spread company Flora thinks my toast-spreading may reveal about my character, they don’t have a category for “refuses to spread this margarine filth and goes to get proper butter.” 🧈

The average person spreads butter on a whopping 574 slices of bread per year, research suggests — leaving a lot of room for speculation.

That moment you use google for good! What is that bloody amazing caterpillar? Well let’s find out… it’s the larva of the Pale Tussock Moth. Great to now match up the giant moths attracted to the outdoor lights earlier this summer. #NatureBeauty #Butterflies 🤓

For context, there are 224,530 academic staff employed in the UK higher education sector ( https://t.co/sAiW6ZGwPT) 650 academics out of 224,530 = 0.29% That’s less than the proportion of the UK population who are vegan (1%) - rather an underwhelming announcement. 🤷🏻‍♀️

SOME GOOD NEWS ON BTB Have you examined the data released by @APHAgovuk in Oct 2022? It shows that in the first 10 cull zones the no of TB herds has plummeted from 317 to 87 since 2016. Good news for those who think it makes sense to address TB effectively https://t.co/B8smJ3olqp
