IMO, Artists should champion the end (or limitation) of ad supported music streaming so their fans know how important it is.

In that model, active music fans (those who consume new music) will have to pay to get the music they want, and a casual listener who uses ad supported streaming like terrestrial radio can still access a lean back experience, which created a long tail for catalog.

In order to prevent fans from moving to ad supported streaming as prices rise, Ad supported streams should be available only for some music (imo, it makes much more sense for music that has been released at least 3-6 months).
