If you saw Rivercide, youāll remember Emilyās powerful interview with @GeorgeMonbiot about discovering her beloved River Llynfi polluted - the fish gasping on the surface. Now @owensheers has rendered this horrifying experience into a poemā¦
Listen from 31 mins 20 secs to hear @owensheers read his powerful poem about the pollution of the River Llynfi. Itās in the voice of Emily who was the first to report the disastrous fish kill. āItās always a dog walker, isnāt it, who finds a bodyā¦ā https://t.co/VlFsTMttWg

The masterful @owensheers has written a poem about the pollution of the Llynfi (a tributary of the Wye). Itās in the voice of Emily, who witnessed a major fish kill there in 2020 and featured on @rivercide_live. Listen to The Verb tonight, BBC R4, at 9pm. Recorded @hayfestival

Our citizen scientists monitor hundreds of sites throughout the Wye catchment. For months, one site - Hollywell Dingle - has been topping our leaderboard of shame as the most polluted. Has the @EnvAgency investigated the source of this pollution? NO. š§µ 1/6

This was the extraordinary moment at our Restore the River event when Environment Agency Chair Alan Lovell was challenged by journalist ā¦@NicolaCutcherā© and a desperate audience on when the agency would enforce the law against polluters.

š¢ TELL UK GOVERNMENTS - no new intensive poultry units! #StopKillingOurRivers
https://t.co/1tYkMdTA4q š© Pollution from industrial chicken production is killing the #RiverWye. If we donāt act now, it could suffer total ecological collapse - and your local river could be next.

It was pretty wild chairing this event. Everyone is clamouring for the @EnvAgency & @NatResWales to enforce the law to protect the river! Hereās my write-up: https://t.co/tmrN9Um3lb

š»Hereās the full interview with @NicolaCutcher, whose investigations reveal that the @EnvAgency admits to conducting ZERO inspections of non-permitted free-range egg farms along the Wye. Such complacency is disgraceful and we look forward to seeing the EA in court next month!š

DEFRA seems to be in denial about the Wye egg story in the Observer. I have to call out this disingenuous statement from an anonymous @EnvAgency spokesperson: āpermitted farms are subject to regular inspectionsā Thereās a catch. THREAD š§µ 1/8 https://t.co/2aGDeh52pQ

Bravo @RiverActionUK & @watsonchas for bringing this out into the light! Major problems with pollution coming from free-range egg farms. The @EnvAgency & @NatResWales have woefully neglected this. Total regulatory failure. https://t.co/fMFAT6kG0r

šØDISMAYING UPDATE @NaturalEngland has informed us that they have merely issued a āwarningā in relation to this incident. No prosecution, no fine. Laws are meaningless without enforcement. The River Wye is officially ādecliningā: a story of regulatory failure.
A few days ago the River Wyeās status was officially downgraded by @NaturalEngland to being in an unfavourable and declining condition. Today, an ancient riverside meadow near Whitney on Wye has been ploughed up right up to the banks.

There is consensus here between supermarkets, farmers and environmental groups - we need āspecial measuresā for the Wye! Why is govt asleep at the wheel? Where is the long-promised āPlan for the Wyeā from Secretary of State @theresecoffey ?
⢠If the river Wye were a school it would be in special measures, according to Tesco, Waitrose and conservationists #CleanItUp ⢠@CraigBennett3 wrote to Welsh & UK govt on state of Wye. @JulieJamesMS replied, @theresecoffey hasn't ⢠Still no sign of Coffey's plan for the Wye
