I'm 44 years old and for the first time I'm bothered by the fact that, in the Star Wars universe, all planets have the same gravity and all of them also have breathable atmospheres.
Philosophers: We must take the Science seriously
Also Philosophers: Imagine a parallel world/universe with a parallel chemistry (and, mutatis mutandis, a parallel Biology and Physics) in which there are elements X, Y, and Z which, combined, work *exactly* like H2O in our world.
I tweet in english for Philosophy Twitter, and in spanish for my chilean friends. This strategy has allowed me to go unnoticed and be ignored by both camps.
There should be a book about A COMPLETE HISTORY OF PEOPLE FROM OTHER FIELDS MAKING WRONG PHILOSOPHICAL CLAIMS OUTRAGEOUSLY IGNORANT OF PHILOSOPHY ITSELF.
This is a good Turing Test variant: if you’re not overwhelmed, awed by Neil Peart's performance here, you’re not human and I’m not interested in what you think, believe, say or like at all.

La intro del primer episodio de The Last of Us me da vibras tanto de Watchmen como de Chernobyl (y no es casualidad). No puedo esperar a ver el episodio completo.
I terrible thing about hanging out with Philosophers is that they tend to like to eat and drink (a lot) in places that are way, way more expensive than what my budget allows. I actually dread going to academic dinners. I usually end up doing hotdogs and cheap beer alone instead.
On June 21 2019, I met a Twitter mutual that saw me very depressed , and suggested me a cheap way to ingest cyanide (as a joke to cheer me up). This 28 we will be married for one year already.

So, here's the reading list for my next course. It's mostly books (and since I don't want to kill my students, we're reading selected chapters). Tag yourself if you're here.
I signed my first teaching contract in a long while today, and I'm both terrified (in a good way!) and thrilled. And I will get married in less than a month. This year will be the wildest ride I've had in ages.

Applied to just one, and was accepted. The thing is: after I botched a MA when I was 25, it took me 13 years to gather the courage to apply to a MA again and 4 more years to apply to the PhD program I wanted, at 42. Never say never, don’t give up! Eventually, things can go right!
THE LAST OF US AND PHILOSOPHY (Wiley-Blackwell) will launch on October 22th and it features a chapter about Philosophy of Mind and the Infected by yours truly and my pal Lucas Hinojosa-López. It’s our first book chapter!
Every department has at least a PhD student who attends to events mostly for the free food, and falls asleep in places he shouldn’t, right?
Because I’m that guy in my department.
Tomorrow morning I'm going to defend my dissertation prospectus in order to gain the status of PhD (c)
Any tips to avoid shooting myself in the foot and trainwrecking catastrophically?
Dear American Friends: the protests in Chile that led to our current constitutional process (writing a new one from scratch, not just reform) started with highschoolers protesting against a 4 cents increase of the public transportation fares. You *can* do something big this time.
Three years ago, I knew I was going to meet
@uni_taria
for beer, fries and completos that night, but had no idea that I was going to fall in love with her instantly. Here’s to many, many years more together.
Tengo el placer y el terror de anunciar que, oficialmente, voy a dictar este Seminario Electivo en la UAH este semestre que viene. Literalmente es un seminario sobre todas las cosas que me han obsesionado estos últimos veinte años...
I might not be successful in most of the ways our society define success, but according to a popular metric (being the cool guy you wanted to be when you were a teenager), I even exceeded my own imagination. I ended up being *way* cooler. My 15 years-old-self mind would explode.
I’m starting to pay a lot more attention to how philosophers treat kinds and categories, how they build and define concepts, and how they -knowingly or not- take given ontologies or epistemologies as implicit starting points. And oh boy, it’s a free for all, no rules, no nothing.
I feel like we’re not talking enough about the elephant in the room: getting competent peers to review anything is getting ridiculously hard and one of the side-effects of this is that most people accepting to do it have little experience, or do it hastily. Peer review is broken.

Have you ever pondered about the ABSOLUTE COGNITIVE DISSONANCE that is celebrating Christmas, with all its winter imagery, in countries that are in the midst of the hottest summer ever? 🥵🎄
Here’s a children’s song about it.
31 minutos - Calurosa navidad (subtitled)
Every big shot Philosopher going to Mastodon and trying to reproduce exactly the hierarchical thing they had on Twitter by following and interacting only with other big shots: you don’t get it, right?
Re: OpenAI Chat
The most important philosophical intuition I've ever had was induced by a Borges short tale, Funes the Memorious. My faith in this intuition, finally, has started to crumble.
Maybe I'm just wired differently (and beaten to a pulp by a very naive metaphysics) but I can't take seriously anything that takes consciousness or experience as fundamental.

"So you are an anarchist"
(Said by a military official)
"Are crabs immortal?"
(Said by a random)
"Why didn't you study something profitable, if you're that smart?"
(Said by a rich old fart from a former extended family)
"I'd have loved to study that!"
(Said by someone who didn't)
My 2023 in Four Pictures:
-Got married to my beautiful, wonderful
@uni_taria
-Started to play bass again
-Gave talks at Philosophy conferences (something I’ve been always scared of)
-Defended my Prospectus and became a PhD (c) at the coolest Philosophy departments in Chile
