@reidtsmith is spot on here. There is no better deal behind an unopened silver briefcase or door #3. It’s time to take the deal, the “least bad option,” and end the bloodshed.
.@reidtsmith broke down in the @amconmag why it’s time to take the deal. It could end the fighting, save lives, and prevent deeper American involvement. That’s a path toward stability and responsible leadership. https://t.co/VPgVcMbkDs

What did you think ending the war in Ukraine meant? Vibes? Speeches? Essays? Great piece from @reidtsmith. There is no ideal time to choose peace, but it is the duty of all men to actively seek it out.
A must-read from @reidtsmith in @amconmag on the Trump’s administration latest push to end the war in the Ukraine. Key part: “But the question confronting us now is not whether the agreement is perfect. Rather, are the alternatives worse? Keep fighting? Toward what end? To

Very happy to announce Katherine has joined @CatoFP as a senior fellow, and to pass along this excellent piece she wrote for TAC:

President Trump challenged the role of the United States as security guarantor for Europe, acknowledging the simple truth that wealthy European allies can and should spend more on defense. https://t.co/VZgM8D13bD

Leaving aside that McConnell has made the same argument about approximately every war, he objects to the U.S. proposal for “limiting Ukraine’s defenses” whereas in fact the main merit of the proposal is that it would place no meaningful limits on the size of Ukraine’s military
.@POTUS is right that Biden’s weakness emboldened enemies like Putin. But those who think pressuring the victim and appeasing the aggressor will bring peace are kidding themselves. Which difficult concessions are we pressing Russia to make? How does limiting Ukraine’s defenses

Apologies for the burst of extremely random retweets. Wish I could blame the six year old for commandeering my phone but I'm the dope who got hacked.

Susan Glasser embracing Rachel Maddow at Dick Cheney's funeral is such a curious inversion of moral memory.
"I got a hug from Rachel Maddow at Dick Cheney’s funeral," writes @sbg1. "Cue the pigs flying. Hell may not yet have frozen over, but on an overcast November morning in Donald Trump’s besieged capital, there were moments when it seemed like it might have."

The fundamental problem with these hits pieces on Bridge is that they are largely premised on him having powers he doesn't possess. Bridge can't order an aid freeze for Ukraine, withdraw a brigade from Europe, or cancel AUKUS - only SecWar or POTUS can order those things.
Senate Republicans are teeing off on Pentagon policy chief Elbridge Colby for icing them out of key decisions. The public spat underscores the widening GOP rift between Reaganite hawks and a growing restraint-oriented wing. w/@reporterjoe @paulmcleary

The fuss over @ElbridgeColby isn’t about process or some rotational brigade in Romania. It’s about protecting the status quo. Pretty rich coming from a Congress that spent decades dodging Article I while funding wars most members never voted to authorize. https://t.co/Edem9U4QlJ

@CurtMills 3/ Last November, restrainers @dandcaldwell and @reidtsmith wrote a piece in Foreign Affairs, in which they argued that former Vice President Kamala Harris' embrace of a more muscular and militaristic foreign policy than Trump may have hurt her in swing states, which tended to

This story is misleading: the Joint Staff making their own assessment of munitions stockpiles is not the same as the Pentagon "giving the green light" to provide Tomahawks to Ukraine. The Joint Staff is a planning body that does not make operational or policy decisions and do not
The Pentagon has given the White House the green light to provide Ukraine with long-range Tomahawk missiles after assessing that it would not impact US stockpiles, leaving the final decision in Trump’s hands, sources tell @NatashaBertrand & @ZcohenCNN

To flip the old chestnut around, the governing instinct here suggests strength is not the predicate of peace; rather, peace is the predicate of strength.
"Trump is poised to end Washington’s decade of the China Hawks," writes @semaforben. Smart column, including a sneaky jab at members of the China pundit class who have never been to China https://t.co/oYMITtpLgT

Wild generational gap here — Bridge and Hegseth *combined* are younger than either McConnell or Murdoch.
EXCLUSIVE: Per high level Trump Admin individuals, Rupert Murdoch and Mitch McConnell are working together behind the scenes to smear Elbridge Colby and Pete Hegseth in the media to undermine President Trump's prospects at a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine’

I have an op-ed in @nytopinion today with my friend @DarinSelnick on why the DoD must fix key systems critical to maintaining quality of life for its troops and their families - mainly the Military Healthcare System and housing - in order to effectively fight and win major wars:
