After hearing about the USN and the admin speculating about fuel contamination being a potential cause of the loss of two aircraft within 30 mins, I spoke with a few former squadron mates who served on carriers with deck division or support roles. Here's what they said to me ⬇️

Great footage of a Gannet shutting down a motor. The Double Mamba engine had two Mamba turbines each fitted to one contra-rotating prop via a gearbox. For ASW flying - there’s plenty of time you are flying at max endurance speeds - when low power is needed. Sometimes enough

Criticize what you will for the Kuznetsov class (you have lots of material to work with), but the missiles launching with the fresnel lens in the foreground goes hard.

Doubly so because VAQ-129 is also the EA-18 Growler Fleet Replacement Squadron (FRS). They’re taking the students down to learn the finer points of fighting the jet. OPs normal. Carry on.

Guarantee accounts will say “Growlers flying south - we’re going to war!” No. Normally if there’s a squadron of Navy jets heading to Key West it’s because they’re doing an air combat maneuvering (ACM) detachment with the aggressors there. Nothing to see here. Move along.

One of the major issues that benefits the low cost carrier (LCC) model in Europe vs the U.S. is geography and the relative scale of flight times. Most of the intra-EU or holiday destination flying is on flights of less than 2.5 hours - where the high density configuration, lack

There have been dozens of very uninformed takes on this story. No, the Qatari Air Force is not getting a “base” on U.S. soil. Training of foreign aviators in the U.S. has been completely routine for decades. At Mountain Home AFB, where this project is planned, there is already

It’s remarkable to consider that the wing designs for Victor were on the drawing board circa 1947-1948 and the prototypes flew roughly seven years after the end of WW2. Pace of development post war was extraordinary.

A fantastic shot of the Handley Page Victor prototype (Circa 1955). Hard to imagine just how futuristic this must have looked back in the 1960s, especially when compared to contemporary aircraft.

Interesting to catch an AAS equipped P-8 making a low approach at a field that is not home base or a detachment location. When the AAS pod is mated, P-8 is not permitted to do practices landings (“bounces”). Curious what the reason for the approaches would be.

Went back to my logs to look - I flew this jet, side number 234 (BuNo 167085) many times while in Kingsville. The last time was as a lead on a night formation training flight on 3NOV16. Most importantly - crew is safe. Order up another Martin Baker ejection seat tie.
