This was how it was done until companies figured out they could make billions by changing it to this system and lobbied the government.
So how many Americans realize having to “do your taxes” isn’t actually normal? . Most countries’ governments figure out each person’s tax responsibility FOR them and then take it out of their paychecks automatically, without people having to do anything extra, and that’s that.

why are you being shamed by a machine??.
Why on earth am I tipping 20% for pick-up orders? I drove there, picked up my food, and had zero table service! Yet I'm guilted into leaving a tip because the payment screen shames me into it. Isn't this setup just absolutely ridiculous?.
