👏🏽Now in @SpringerNature Dr. Deville @hopkinskimmel opened my eyes when he asked me to write the NHPI Physician Workforce chapter. These are the opportunities that change the trajectory of young trainees like me. Love the Indigenous representation! 🔗 https://t.co/R7cGoG8G87

Grateful to @JAMAInternalMed for inviting us to discuss the tragic Lāhainā wildfires & the urgent need to update cause of death coding to account for climate-related deaths. The rise in #climateDisasters warrants a critical reexamination of ICD coding to best track #climateHealth

📢 The sad thing is that these aren’t just my words, these are the words of my community who I advocate for every day. I’ve heard and seen too many young Pacific Islanders taken by cancer. Researchers must be aware. Big mahalo to @MatthewRozsa @Salon 🔗 https://t.co/lXMXIBMSNM

Today, we celebrated the first graduating class of the Freedom House EMT Training Academy. This class had a 100% graduation rate and are all serving Pittsburgh as EMTs. I couldn't think of a more beautiful way to honor the legacy of the Freedom House Ambulance Service.

A lot of people don’t know that the first EMS service in the country was started by Black Pittsburghers, when local police and fire refused to serve them. On the last day of Black History Month, I spoke on the House Floor to honor their contributions to medicine.

In 1968, police officers drove patients to hospitals in ambulances with no medical training or equipment. That all changed with the formation of the Freedom House Enterprises Ambulance Service—operated by African American paramedics. (1/4)

The evidence is clear: bias and structural inequities impact care and outcomes in emergency medical services. Now it's time for #EMS leaders and the communities they serve to do something about it. With the brilliant @jamiekennel3 for @Newsweek. https://t.co/dWbRIONGxS
