Check out our latest paper, published in @AppEnvMicro on the key members involved in #diatom #microbiome assembly. Huge thanks to my colleagues and co-authors @AMohamed85 and @DiatomsBacteria. Join me in Bremen at @MarineMicrobio on 12 July to hear more.

A procedure for preparing your tax return as a #gradstudent: https://t.co/w48dCe0Khy It's not as straightforward as entering all your tax forms into software! You have to tabulate and understand your income and expenses first (some don't appear on tax forms).

If you're tackling your #gradstudent tax return this weekend, make my tax "cheat sheet" your starting point! It orients you to the type(s) of income you've received and the benefits available to you. https://t.co/5OIiDYUmKv

If you're shocked and dismayed that your #gradstudent, #postdoc, or #postbac tax return shows that you owe thousands of dollars... This video explains what's probably going on (it's your #fellowship!). https://t.co/rRQOIivTde

I wish I'd found this paper years ago. Table 1 has a straight-up list of golden gate overhangs that work well and play nice with each other, up to a 30-piece assembly. No more choosing four random bases and hoping.

I’m taking a break from my PhD šŸ©·āœØšŸ«¶šŸ¼ I initially planned to keep quiet about this decision, but also feel like too many of us get lost in the shame and stigma of ā€œquittingā€ academia and grad school. If you are having a hard time with your PhD, I see you and I am with you.

Many funded PhD students are paying MORE in income tax than necessary because they are overlooking "qualified education expenses" that can reduce their taxable income or their tax liability (hint: DON'T trust your Form 1098-T to capture all of them). https://t.co/ZIoEMyTlom

My favorite calculator for estimating income tax liability (if you have a SIMPLE life) is from Smart Asset. https://t.co/uomoNF420h If you're a #gradstudent, #postdoc, or #postbac, use this calculator to check if your tax return has your tax liability in the right ballpark.
