#POCUS quiz: While doing a #VExUS scan, it appears as if there are 2 portal veins at first glance. But only one lights up on color. What is the other one? (pick the most likely option) POLL in thread πŸ‘‡ #MedEd

Great case showing how a paramedic used Lumify Reacts in a traumatic out-of-hospital cardiac arrest and was able to collaborate with a hospital based physician using tele-ultrasound. https://t.co/RkNFtvnc1Q

This image shows a large pericardial effusion in a young male who had been experiencing symptoms of CHF. Most notable is the presence of fibrinous stranding. Fibrinous pericardial effusions can be seen in TB, malignancy, and infectious/inflammatory processes.

Focus on MSK US this coming month: Ganglion cyst. Typically attached to underlying joint capsule or tendon sheath. On US look for fluid-filled mass w/stalk extending toward joint. Evaluate w/color Doppler to exclude vascular anomaly and nerve sheath tumor #POCUS

Definitely no discussion re: LM vs #POCUS for thoracentesis (US >>LM). But, what about dynamic vs static US guidance? One ICU study (n=394) found rate of PTX for dynamic = 0.7% and static = 5% https://t.co/mbjRDOP0w5 Here’s how to do one using a @VaveHealth probe: #FOAMed

Think about the aorta in older patients with abdominal pain. Or back pain. Or flank pain. Think about the aorta. Please think about it. Pretty please?

This was a 6 day old who presented with bilious vomiting. The whirlpool sign corresponds with a clockwise wrapping of the SMV and mesentery around the SMA. This is shown side by side with a clip augmented with color flow. #FOAMed #FOAMus #POCUS #MedEd #ultrasound #MedTwitter
