I am pleased to note this similarly bad idea did not end up as the law of this country, and that the final position was simply to waive those debtsβas I saidβinstead of the government enraging known perpetrators of gendered violence for no reason at all. https://t.co/iKx0Geu2Wp
Hearing of a 'commitment to women' that amounts to some lines about some things you will take a look at. Including some things that will require some very much more detailed consideration and work and ultimately may not be a particularly safe idea at all. https://t.co/v6MMxG4nXm

It's my view that the Albanese Government are not committed to the security and safety of women receiving welfare, and these repeated attempts to use the system to criminalise peopleβas if it's the business of that systemβare a convenient way of obscuring this lack of commitment.

Every piece of legislation in the social security law must be for the legitimate object of providing benefits to those eligible. The Secretary here will be asked to make unilateral assessments of social security eligibility on the basis of an arrest warrant. Is that legitimate?

Government efforts to improve the welfare system re: women's safety should be focused on improving their financial position and agency in the system. You should eliminate the ways offenders can use it to perpetrate their abuses. The welfare system is not a part of the judiciary.

Despite the seriousness of these crimes, I am utterly unconvinced that this is how the problem should be addressed, or that the welfare system should ever be used in this way. Punishing criminal offenders is the job of the courts. An arrest warrant is certainly not a conviction.

People seem to believe that growing eggplant is a hack to infinite eggplants. In reality you might get like four or five eggplants in a season. This isnβt going to fulfil your annual eggplant needs. All things being equal Iβm not convinced that growing food is cheaper
Many that live in apartments and bedsits donβt have room for another tabletop. You realise disabilities are a huge spectrum. For instance Iβd struggle to take care of a garden

The fact that des workers are not trained in disability is a huge flaw in the system
@ArtistAffame All of the workers I had in the mainstream system except 1 were ex retail employees, the 1 exception was a PhD marine biologist lol Under DES it's been a mix of teachers, retail workers, business men and a security guard lol not a human service worker in sight...1/2

this thread should also help bring you up to speed
Now that the Deloitte report, about the government's unlawful administration of mutual obligations, is making international headlines, it's worth looking at what's actually in it (apart from AI slop) and WHY it was actually commissioned A threadπ
